As the title says. some of you may know my boy Edmondo is Inbred. he is 11 weeks old tomorrow and I hope to get him and his dad Jasper ( nearly 6months old) neutered so they can live happy healthy lives and also 1 can be bonded with a girl if one boy died etc.

So have you had an inbred piggie neutered and would you recommend it?

When you say inbred, do you mean a lethal? Or just that some numpty didn't separate his parents quickly enough when they were little/you were missold two 'females' and got some free piggies?!

If it is the latter, you would be surprised how many piggies on the forum alone are inbred! Although it is far, far from ideal, it is a lot more commonplace than inbred dogs and cats for example as so many pet shops either can't or don't bother to sex piggies properly.

As such your boy should have no more than the normal neutering risks

If on the other hand he IS a lethal, then I would imagine the risks are far higher, but someone more experienced with lethals will hopefully be able to help more.

Depends very much what you mean by inbred and what his problems are. If he has multiple problems then an operation will be much more risky for him than his Dad.

If he is a lethal he will likely (but not neccessarily) have a shorter life span anyway so it really depends on a lot of factors. Can you tell us a bit more about him and maybe post some pictures?

I've spent a lot of time researching lethal piggies so I may have some answers for you if that is what he is.

well the story is we got 2 piggies (females) from our friends back in January ages 5 weeks. then towards the end of feb we noticed Daisy was getting bigger and could feel a bit of movement so took her to the vets and they did an ultrasound and it showed a heart beat and also checked ruby our other girl to make sure she was a she and she is :) She then had little Edmondo on 15th March. our friends accidently got the ages muddled so the boy (jasper) stayed in an extra week with the girls , jasper was the only male in the two litters. none of the other females got pregnant luckily. we separated our baby boy edmondo a couple of days before he was 3 weeks old and we got his dad Jasper from our friends and they moved in straight away :)

so he is from a brother and sister.
