I just made an appointment to have my two boys neutered next Monday. I found a really great vet that has had guinea pigs of his own for over 30 years and exclusively treats small animals, so I think they are in good hands. Any tips on pre and post-op?

Good luck! We had to have one of the boars who came through the rescue, Darwin, neutered as he just wouldn’t get on with boars but was also very lonely; he lives with a sow in a lovely new home now.
The only thing with him was he developed a post neuter abscess almost five weeks after the surgery! So just keep an eye on the area for a few weeks after the surgery :)

When you take them for their opp take some of their favorite veg along too, they may be nervous at the vets and not want to come forward to drink, so having some nice cucumber to munch on would be good for them.
When you bring them home make sure they are kept nice and warm the first night back and that they are eating and pooping normally.

Hi! What vets did you use? Trying to find the best for my guinea pig too!

Hope all goes well with the neutering.
My boy made a great recovery from his surgery. I kept him on white cotton towels with newspaper underneath for the first week (changing it every day). It makes it easy to spot anything leaking from the wound.
I found lots of useful advice in the post-op guide on the forum.

Glad to hear that :) thank you! That's a good idea that I hadn't thought of! Will definitely look at that! Thanks so much for your help :)
