I am thinking of my getting one of my boats neutered to get him a female companion.
What cost should I expect?
Hi!
Firstly - which country are you in? If you add your country, state/province or UK county to location in your account details to make it appear with every post you make, you allow us to tailor any advice and recommendations to what is relevant for you straight away.
Any mod is jumping between lots of different threads in a day and see several hundred different posters over the course of a year, so remembering everybody is simply not possible. You can access your account details by clicking on your username on the top bar.
Prices vary massively between countries and they also vary depending on what kind of vet or level of service you choose.
In the UK a neutering operation by a general vet tends to be around £40-70, with an exotics vets in can cost you several hundred pounds but will include better post-op care including overnight monitoring if necessary.
In the US you are looking at around $150 for a no frills op and up to $1000-1300 for a full exotics vet service.
More important than the price is how experienced the vet you choose is with small rodent operations. this can be a general vet with plenty of practice in neutering rescue boars or an exotics vet with good practice in small furries operations. This means that you are less likely to have problems with operation recovery and post-op complications.
