Although it is early days yet we thought we would introduce Sapphire (Saffi - named after Bombay Sapphire Gin) to the forum. This little sow is approximately 3 and a half years old as far as we can guess and has lived all of her life as a lone pig. She has been a piggy that has been passed from owner to owner as the children got bored with her and we are really glad that she has found her forever home with us and our herd. We have had her for 3 weeks now and have had her registered and checked at our vets and she has a clean bill of health which is a relief so the bonding begins.
We have purposely not cleaned out Ouzo and Morgan's very large c & c cage and have sectioned off an area for Saffi so that they can all see and smell each other through the bars. Ouzo is extremely pleased to see her and spent most of yesterday lying at the side of her section sniffing and nuzzling her. Morgan doesnt seem too bothered which is what we were worried about the most. She and Saffi seem to like each other and there is a lot of sniffing and nuzzling going on there too. We are also using Ouzo's brush on all three piggies to pass on the smells of each other. Saffi is very friendly and seems to have been handled a lot which is a very big plus for us. Fingers crossed this week goes well and then next weekend we may try taking the sectioning away and allowing them time to mix.
