Hi everyone.
I'm a new piggy owner and have been reading through all the posts.
We got our girls on monday 21st and they were almost 12 weeks old.
I currently feed them p@h muesli but I noticed they leave a lot of it. I've now read up about selective feeding so will be going out today to get pellets for them and make the change over.

They already have me wrapped around their little claws because as soon as they hear me in the room they squeal like mad... 1st week I was treating them for it, but not anymore. I don't want to end up with them or me amd the kids having bad habits. I'd like to get the feeding into a routine too.

I am giving them loads of veg (maybe too much) in the mornings too.... there is a pic of yesterday's veg 20170830_093251.webp

Any advice and guidance would be appreciated to keep our girls healthy .

Thanks

Hi
:wel:

Piggies are great pets and as you have discovered get to your heart quickly. Fab news you've found the right place for all things piggy and any other silliness.

Great news you are transferring to pellets too.

I would lessen the carrots and kale, they will love them but are high on calcium, feed perhaps high calcium foods once a week if you can. Cucumbers are great as ensure they get there fluid intake if they aren't fond of water bottles yet, peppers brill due to there vit c content. Frankly all veggies will be scoffed by piggies. In terms of quantity, difficult to tell from size of chopping board but at a guess perhaps reduce by a third as still young. Biggest part of their diet as you will know is hay which forms 80% of their feed take, so the greenest hay and quality the better.:tu:

Thanks for your reply.
I won't be giving kale for another 4/5 days now

Look up guinealynx online as you can download veg charts to let you see how calcium and iron etc each type contains.
Good luck with your new piggies!

welcome!
you are mentioning muesli... but it is a wrong food for them, this is the reason why they eat only some pieces of muesly...
I don't use any pellets, but if you like them, prefer a grainfree pellet.
And Guinea Lynx. read every page of that website. It was suggested by an exotic vet I know and I find it extremely important.
My personal advice for you is: feed your piggies with fresh grass, it is a good and organic food rich of minerals and nutrients, more than eny vegs (which are not that ideal for piggies gut... too many vegs make troubles, too much grass is never a mistake). Hay is the basis (hay is grass).
Waiting for your piggies' pictures!!!
hugs!
