Since one of our pregant sows gave birth this am, in the early hours, the younger SOW is challenging mum to share bed with new pup and challenging certain part of the cage trying to dominate. Mum is wasting a lot of energy trying to put other SOW in her place and warn her off new pup. Other SOW is going for the pup alot and dominating it and it's not very nice to watch. Mum and pup just want to be together in peace to bond and get a feeding routine. I've seen mum stimulation of pup back end to get digestive system going but then other Sow will come and try to get in their bed and it's annoying mum. I feel sorry for other sow as they were best mates until this new one came along now all the dynamics have changed.

Big question

Do we leave all 3 together (new mum and pup with possibly jealous SOW ) to get on with it naturally?

Or we have a brand new crate with fresh soft hay which we could put mum and pup in for their 1st night together enabling them some peace to bond and feed. Is all night too long? We don't want to make matters worse by separating original SOW connection before pup came. Our main concern is clearly mum and pup!

Please help? Which should we do ? Thankyou in advance. This is hard

@Wiebke

Sorry I can’t help as this is outside my experience.
I’ve tagged one of our experts for help.
Congratulations on the babies

Hi!

The existing hierarchy is upset by the arrival of babies. while they are being nursed, they and their mother enjoy protected status. Not all companions take well to that. your mother has bonded with her new-borns if she is licking their bums and letting them suckle.

However, if your companion continues to be a pest and harass mother and any babies, you will have to bite into the sour apple and separate the upset companion until the end of the nursing period. This is a situation that depends entirely on the personalities and their interplay, so there is no one rule covers everything. You have to deal with things as they are and not as you wish them to be, unfortunately. :(

All the best!

Pup isn't actually suckling yet? So not sure what that means with what has been going on between the two original sows?
Should we put the mum and Pup into the crate to establish feeding? And how long for?

Many thanks
