Hi. I lost my Millie almost two weeks ago. Hetty has been eating but not much else. I went away for a bit last week and she went into boarding and was much more lively etc with piggies near her.
Today I got a new baby girl. I’ve put her in a cage alongside Hetty and was going to wait until Sunday to do bonding. But now not sure if she should be with another piggy sooner as she was with quite a herd.
What should I do? I can do bonding tomorrow but equally don’t want to rush it.
Thanks

I’m so sorry you lost Millie. 😘

Well the advice is bond straight away if the new piggy is under 12 weeks. You say baby so I’m thinking under 12 weeks. But quarantine if they are older and haven’t come from a reputable rescue.

Personally I would bond them tomorrow. Good luck. I hope the bonding is straight forward. 🤞🏻

Any baby under four months of age needs to be bonded immediately upon coming home - so it does need to be tomorrow (given it’s too late in the day to do it now). The companionship needs are most important to babies

Over four months of age and not from a rescue centre: quarantine in a separate room for two weeks. Then side by side for as long as necessary before bonding day.
Over four months and from a rescue then they can go straight side by side (again for as long as necessary).

Thanks.
Bit worried about her eye. One is fine and the other seems to be facing the wrong way and quite pronounced. Don’t want to bond then find out something bad is wrong. Have attached some pics. But I may be judgemental as my Millie was an absolute beaut. All my piggies have had full black eyes though with only a little white when they were older.

You mean something bad that's contagious? If not, I would attempt the bond tomorrow because as far as I know it's about not leaving the baby on her own. She needs to be with an adult guinea asap.

I'm not an expert tho so take with pinch of salt if you like.

Their eyes can be like that sometimes - a couple of mine are and they are fine (3/4 years). Eyes protrude when they are scared which can make things look worse. I’d go ahead and bond.

Have started bonding. So far ok but few tense moments. Hetty seems to be tolerating her rather than caring. She keeps laying down so when baby comes near she chases her off then goes back to the same spot. But baby has been eating etc. Hetty just isn’t used to babies so fingers crossed.

Moved to cage and much more settled. Basically ignoring each other now. Hetty is being really gentle though. Have two of everything but they chose to share food bowl earlier which was lovely. Hopefully will work out fine when baby grows a little and is calmer.
