Hello everyone. Not been on here for a while. As some of you may remember,I was looking for a new baby Boar a while ago,for my current Boar(15 months)but all places that offered were either too far,or didn't meet requirements etc...well......I have finaly found my new baby!He is 9 weeks old,and we are collecting him this friday :) he is a smooth coated piggy and is just gorgeous!we have named him Harvey.Harvey will be living in his own cage, and I will slowly try and bond him with my adult Boar over time.If not sucessful then it is fine for us to have the 2 seperate cages anway as we have the space. So as of friday I am officialy a piggy mum of 2 intsead of one :)

Harvey has arrived!yyaayyyy :)
Harvey arrived at 4pm today and is settling in very well.He is currently in a very large cage in our dining room. When I first got him home today, after about 10 mins he "wheeked" and my older Boar hard him and that was it......total wheeking session went on for ages!so cute.I have had both boys out tonight on the sofa, and was quite amazed by how both reacted to one another.George was making sounds that I have never heard before, and he follwed baby everywhere and tried to mount him several times.Baby was trying to snuggle into George,so cute.Realy hope they end up loving eachother :) any tips much appreciated. Both will remain in their own cages until I feel sure it's right to put them together.
My new profile pic is my new little lad Harvey 9 weeks old :)

Congrats on the new addition :)

The one piece of advice i will give is when you start the introductions is to commit fully to them - by this i mean DO NOT keep separating them. Each time you put boars together they have to try and re-establish a bond - by all means have them live side by side for a few days/weeks - but once you do put them together without anything separating them, then unless blood is drawn you will have to see it through.

When i was bonding my boys i had them live side by side for a few weeks and then set up a neutral area where neither had been and that did not smell of either pig. I put them together and watched from a distance (but close enough that should any aggression be shown i could jump in). While they were 'getting to know one another' i cleaned out the cage that would be living in fully (i bought new fleece/cage accessories) and re-arranged the cage so it was new to both pigs). After about 2hrs of them being together i put them in their home - by this time i was confident of them getting along as there was no aggression - i then left them to it (observing from a distance throughout the course of the day).

Where did you get your new boy from? I only ask because if you got him from either a breeder/pet shop you may want to consider a 3wk quarantine period to ensure you little one is free of any illnesses (ideally you would do this by putting the new pig in it's own cage and away from other pigs i.e in a different room, i would also suggest handling the 'new' piggie last and always wash hands thoroughly after handing and cage cleaning).

Quarantining a new guinea pig is vitally important - it's far easier (an cheaper if vet treatment is required) to treat 1 pig for illness than multiple pigs.

Here are some guides regarding boar behaviour/bonding - well worth reading:
