I'm.not sure how this will go since its for lack of a better explination..an experiment.
Having grown really tired of towel drama(have to put puppy pads, then newspaper, then two towels..fold and tuck and xlip because I have naughty boar pigs who dig under and get thier old.wee thts soaked thru all over them)....i was shopping for a new foot rug in the bathroom..and found some really thick fluffy ones for eight dollars. they are very close to my cage demensions. Can be machine washed n dried. Ta **...why not. So now I will only have to put puppy pad, plop thick fuzzy rug on top. Once its dirty, simply roll take outside..shake...toss in wash. No more folding n pinning and its heavy enough I dont think theyll burrow under. I guess its a cheap go at vet be d alternative. Ill.keep * updated on how it.goes. No looping to get tosies caught in...just in case anyone thought that.
Thoughts anyone

So far we are pleased with mommys idea. Our wee pours right thru..our poo sweeps right off. And its so soft n fluffy we have abandoned our hidey cubes and just stretch out and sleep where we drop. Mommys not happy we abandoned our bed as she paid an arm n leg for it...but seeing as how happy wer are she will just have to get over it! -love smores n choco

Can you share pictures for us? I am curious about just what you're using. It sounds great!

Ill try n post pictures soon. But its just a thicker fluffier bath mat rug. Like you normally put down to step outta the tub with. Here you can find large ones.

that sounds fantastic! how about smell? and do you pub paper under it or something? :))

Well idve only had them on it for three days. So far its smelling better than the towel bit does. I put puppy pads underneath to catch the wee. And I do twice daily poo sweep. Plan on changing puppy pads twice weekly..as I did with towels...but this is still in exp phase..lol.

So long as it doesn't have a rubberised bottom where the wee will just sit, and not wick through i think its a good idea.

Well it does have a rubber bottom..but it has holes. I honeatly was surprised...but the wee is wicking thru. To be sure tho...i may give it some pokes with a sharp instriment to be extra sure. But so far its going thru

Correction!

Rugs r not ruberized on bottom. Thought they were. Pulled them out to do a good shake off..and reakised no rubber. Just thickly and tightly weaved on bottom. Wees are wicking thru. They are 100 percent pile cotton so I thinj may shrink a tiny bit...but seeing that they only cost 8 dollars..i can live with that. Trimmed gus.s and it still held up in the wash. Only negative..wish id gotten darker color as thier food n wee stains.

Not able to do pics. Unfortunatly my comp.is down at the moment and I'm doing everything by phone. I will as soon as I can tho

BRILLIANT!
what a fab idea..........sounds like the little fella's are LURVING the new bedding x)x)x)
I'm sure they'll also go back to using their lovely house soon......

When your comp is up and ready let me know and i'll help with the pigtures love 8:)

UPDATEu

Unfortunatly after trimming the rugs to fit the cage better it apparently took away what threading was holding it together. Gave them another wash and they fell to bits. Tempoarily put them on shavings until I figure out a solution. So tired of towel and fleece drama...want some thing I can just plop in there. If I find a rug closee to the deminsion and wont need a trim I may do this run again as they liked it ,and it proved very useful intil I mucked it up

Valid question....no they werent nibbling it. I was assuming theyd try it..but they didnt. Although the shape the rugs r in now i wouldnt try it.
