Hi,

I am hopefully moving soon to a house where we will be able to have our piggies inside with us (at the mo we're renting so they only sleep inside when its too cold or they've had a bath although they do play in alot!).

I'm wanting to build a c&c cage for my group of 5 (4girls and 1 neutered boy). How many grids should it be? I'm thinking 3x5, but not sure in real terms how much space that would take out of livingroom - I might have to have a second storey? Or is that even big enough for 5?

Also my OH is allergic to hay! I'm hoping if I have them on towels and a hayrack it will be confined enough not to set him off. At the mo when the piggies come in overnight they have newspaper with thick hay on top which they really love, but sets my husband off like mad so I don't think this would be working long term!

3x5 ft = 15 ft sq; the minimum required for 5 piggies is 14 ft sq (or 2x7 ft), if you apply the rule od 2x4 ft for 2 piggies, 2x5 ft for three...

We have decided to go C&C with my 5 piggies as well, but we will probably end up with a two or three tier affair of 2x4 or 2x5 ft, as our cage has to fit into the bay window.

I have a 2 x 4, 3 storey cage for 6 guineas and that's just about enough. You will be surprised how big the c&c's translate to a living room (hence us building up). I would love one day to have an open top huge pen rather than a tall cage, but there you go you always want what you can't have eh?

3 x 5 will be big, is that 15 square feet?

We have used ramps made out of bent grids (a * shape so they can't fall off) which are lined with vet bed and all 6 whizz up and down the ramps easily.

Hay balls and hay racks are brilliant for holding back the hay and I hope it works for you and especially your husband - bless him.
