Evening all,

I'm hoping someone can help me. We have had our little piggies for a month now and we have just got them a 2 tier cage for more space. However they are not using the ramp. I have tried tempting with food, (they just stretch the majority of the way up to get the food). I have now done some more research and I have found quite a few problems. 1) it's too steep, 2)there isnt enough grip to go up 3) they could be scared. I can sort 2 and 3 however to make it less of an incline I need a platform. We had one in the old cage which I've tried to make fit but it was too big. I have attached a picture of the cage below. Also piggie fell off the top today, (All appears to be well luckily. 😢I have been putting them up there as a change, but ideally I need to block it off to stop it happening again. Any advice it greatly appreciated.

That red tube they have, you can probably attach that to the ramp. Make sure it's secure and if they use it all the time, then they will know it's safe to go through it. For the steepness, you can use bricks to put the ramp on. You can look and read this guide.

Ramps in Cages

Another thing to note is that upper levels do not count towards the cage size (because piggies are ground roaming creatures), so sadly you haven’t actually given them more space as such. It’s only the bottom level of their cage size which counts towards their total space, upper levels are bonus only and it’s the single bottom level of their cage which needs to meet/exceed size requirements to be enough space

Putting a brick (or similar) underneath the bottom of the ramp to reduce its gradient may help. Having sides/using the tunnel as suggested above, can help them be less scared of ramps also

I would put the top section on the floor and give them more space that way. I think it would be difficult to make it less steep because of the small space around the opening. The tunnel should help make them feel safer, but if they don’t like it I wouldn’t force it.
