Recently I changed my 2x4 C&C cage with a 2x2 loft for my 3 sows to a 2x6 cage completely on the floor so they have more floor space. One quarter of the cage is vet bed and three quarters is aspen woodshavings (dust free). I have was wondering if anyone has any improvements for my cage.IMG20191228130857.webp

Your cage set up is lovely, and I sure they appreciate the extra space being all on one level. The only thing I would suggest is more hidey houses (these can be something as simple as a box with a door cut into it) so that each sow has one. Maybe a line of igloos along the back wall?
I would also add a second hay source so they always have access to plenty of hay, and one piggy can't take charge of the hay area.

Each sow already has their own hidey house, there are three in there (the pigloo, the willow bridge/hidey and the strawberry hidey) but thank you for your suggestions. I will add another hay source! Thank you so much! ❤️

I would still add another hidey.
The willow bridge isn't a hidey as such, and many piggies won't feel secure in such an open structure. They may use it if there is no other choice, but a proper hidey would be preferable.
I always work on the principle that you should have 1 extra hidey anyway, as that way the under pig still has a choice.

They have a fantastic space. Love the cute connecting door. My piggies like to really retreat in a hidey, they like the stick bridges but wouldn't have a deep sleep there unless it's hot weather. I agree about adding a hidey.
My guinea pigs always sleep in there (I live in Australia, and I gets quite hot here especially with the bushfires and drought that is going on) but thank you for your suggestion I will look into getting another hidey ❤️

Fleece forests are also lovely for giving them security and would look great on your setup. I clip fleece over the end of my c and c for security.

Ok I definitely agree with you now, thank you so much for telling me, I will buy/make a hidey tomorrow 🐾🐾🐾🐹🐹

Yes I think that would be a lovely idea, did you make or buy your fleece forest?
I've made them in the past as I love the whole cage rebuild / making things for piggies side of things. There's one on Amazon which I have my eye on, not sure if you can get the same stuff, called Etophigh Pet tent ..

You’re cage looks great!
I’m in Australia too, so I try to use large boxes with atleast 2 holes/doors in them not just for piggy arguments but also better ventilation on hot days.
I clip a teatowel or a fleece on the end of the cage for an open yet tent type hidey/safe area, like this..
