I have my guinea pig for about 6 months. He currently lives in a large rabbit cage no levels. I am thinking about buying him a multi level cage imac benny 100. Does anyone already have one and how do your guinea pigs find it or any advice about multilevel cages would be welcome thanks!

guinea pigs really need to be kept in pairs, they need to be with their own kind. Does your piggy have a friend? If your piggy does have a friend, or if you intend on getting him/her a friend then a cage such as the one you suggest is far too small for two pigs.
The other issue with that particular cage is that piggies are ground roaming creatures and having such levels does not really suit the way guinea pigs live. A lot of us have hay lofts in c&c cages but they don’t count towards the available space given piggies prefer to live on one level.

Hi thanks for the advice! I have one at the moment and he’s seems very happy so I’m a bit fearful about getting a second one. Incase it upsets him or they fight, etc. I think I might rethink the cage and just keep him in the one he has now as it’s xxl and he has plenty of space to roam around.

Bonding him with another piggy needs to be done properly to ensure success, but it will be much better for him and he will live a happier life if he isn’t alone.

Yeah your right I should at least try and see how he gets on so I’m going to do a load of research into introducing a new piggy! Thank

As you have a Male, he will need to either be neutered and then have the six week wait before he is safe to be put with a female, or he can be bonded with another male.
If you have a rescue centre near you who offer boar dating then that would be the best option to get him a friend - with boar dating the piggy can choose their own friend which is more likely to result in a successful bond.
If you do bond him with another male, then you need to make sure the cage is big enough as two boars need loads of space (a cage measuring 2 feet by 6 feet is recommended (60cm by 180cm).
Good luck with it

Hi!

It is great that you want to improve the life of your boy!

Guinea pigs are ground roaming group animals. They require company 24/7 and as much space on one level as possible.

The best way to find a same sex companion is one of our recommended rescues, as they allow you bring your piggy, so he can meet rescue piggies and has a say in who he wants to live with. That goes a very long way towards a stable bond. Can you really be there for your boy all the time, every day for the next 5-7 years to satisfy his need?
