Hi all, I have two lovely female piggies, we’ve had them almost a year. They have a large indoor hutch and we get them out for a wander in the garden or living room.
Today we got a rescue cat, who I’ve just introduced to the living room, the piggies are housed safely in our back room, so completely separate at the moment, although the cat can see/smell them through the french doors that lead through.
I just wondered if anyonecan share experiences of introducing the cat to the piggies (not directly, just looking through the cage etc) as I don’t want the cat to terrorise the girls. I will definitely keep them in separate rooms with the doors close for a while

Personally I would not allow the cat to have any direct contact with the piggies at all.
Even though the door of a hutch, all it would take is one playful swipe and she could cause a serious injury to a piggy.
There is no benefit to any of the animals in allowing them to meet, so as it sounds like it is possible to keep them seperated that is exactly what I would do.

i agree as well.
Just seeing a cat will scare the piggies (they aren’t used to having a predator looking in at them.)

If you had a young kitten my advice would be different to the above as controlled "viewing" can help both lots of animals live side by side without fear of over curiosity but with this being a rescue and I assume an adult you have to accept that instincts towards small furries are well ingrained and I wouldn't risk it
