We recently lost our much loved 6 year old piggy Fred, leaving his brother George very lonely and quiet.
We had a wee visit to Ayr guinea pig rescue to see if we could find him a friend and came home with Chocco. They’re living side by side at the moment as George is also 6 and we didn’t want to stress him out too much with bonding but they already get along well. Lots of sniffing each other through the bars and excited wheeks, they’ve also been falling asleep next to the bars and each other 🥰
We’re hoping to eventually get them together but if not they’ve got a good size cage each and seem very happy. George is much brighter since Chocco arrived, he had been almost totally silent since Fred died.

Chocco also seems to have taken the noisy children in his stride and is getting pretty brave although dislikes being picked up and I’d forgotten how quick youngsters are 😂

In old boys like these the testosterone has run out. They are much more like sows and so much easier to bond than younger boars because they value companionship very much over dominance. All the best with the bonding; but it sounds very promising if George has already found his sparkle again! That means that he will be accepting of new companionship. :tu:

Chocco is a stunner! He reminds me of my sweetie Gethin (RIP October 2021, aged 6 1/2), who was the sheltie version of Chocco.

That’s really reassuring, I’m hopeful they’ll be able to live together.
Gethin was gorgeous 😍 I fallen in love with Chocco’s slightly disheveled hairdo, it’s especially funny when he popcorns across the cage and all the hair goes flying.
