I had two guinea pigs and one of them passes on Tuesday quit suddenly. Sugar (the one that died) was bonded with Cinnamon. They were both about 2.5 yrs old and bonded for life. Cinnamon is seems quit sad, which I totally understand. I am not sure what we are eventually going to do with her. Get her a new friend or find her a new home. I am due in Aug and not sure if on top of my current 4 kids and a new baby if taking care of two piggies is a good idea.
So until our family decides, I wanted to know about Cinnamon. We used to have 6 guinea pigs in the room together. 2 males and 4 females. Only Cinnamon and Sugar were bonded females. We were never able to bond the two of them. We have since rehomed the other females and the males are at my classroom at preschool. Question, for socialization, should I ask my director if I can bring Cinnamon to school (in her own cage of course) to be in the same room with the other piggies? She is a social butterfly and I don't want her to get depressed that he friend is gone. I am concerned since they are male and she is female. She doesn't squeak as much as she did. Cinnamon and Sugar used to squeak EVERY time walked into the room or would hear us move (even at 3 am!). Now Cinnamon doesn't unless I call out "Cinnamon!" or "Guinea, Guinea!"
Suggestions?

Firstly sorry for the loss of Sugar.

To be totally honest if I were in your situation I would be tempted to try and find a new, responsible home for Cinnamon.
If she is sad about the loss of her friend then I don't think a noisy preschool classroom, in a cage on her own is a good idea.
Even if there are other piggies nearby I think this could still prove to be quite a distressing environment for a lone piggy.
She does need company, so finding someone with one or more females, or someone willing to take on another pig might be the best solution for you and Cinnamon.
Do you have any animal shelters or rescue organisations nearby who might be able to find a friend for Cinnamon and then rehome them as a pair?

But in the meantime here are some tips on caring for a bereaved piggy.

Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig

Thanks for your help. There is/was one rescue here that I know of, I live in Kansas. But I think it closed. I think I will try to rehome her. I will really miss her, since out of all the 6 piggies we ever had, she was my favorite, I want what is best for her.

Here is the current list of recommended rescues: Guinea Lynx :: US Guinea Pig Rescue and Shelter Organizations

If you rehome privately, please make sure that you rehome your piggy only into a situation where she is with other guinea pigs and you visit the home and home check in person.
Do NOT just hand your piggy over and beware of any people who come up with nice pictures and excuses for a home check at the last minute. Snake owners and dog fighters use this trick; they also often send their female partner to pick up small unwanted prey animals.

The last part scares me. I live in Kansas and people are always asking on craigslist for animals to feed to their farm animals.
As per Cinnamon, she has perked up. She is now squeaking again.
