I have a three year old guinea pig he has always lived alone but I tend to give him alot of attention but I am considering buying another little friend for him. I'm afraid however that they may fight? He's very timid and not aggresive. Maybe I could take him to a breeder or pet shop and see how he reacts with other males?

lok at the link above, its all the rescue section, which is a good option as there are so many piggies which are unwanted and need homes.

you can find out which rescue is nearest to you and you can take your piggie there to see if they get on - so can get one knowing they dont fight!

I would say a baby boar would be a safe bet for bonding, Good Luck

I would agree. I got a baby boar for my piggie and they get on like a house on fire!

Fantastic, Toby is very shy and timid do you think there is any chance of bullying if a particular dominant guinea pig enters his living environment?

It is always a possibility but the same when you introduce any animal for the first time.

A baby boar might be the best option as moonie8404 suggested. Some breeds are a little more docile than others in my opinion. I have found Shelties and Coronets the most placid, but they are long-haired and do need regular combing, bathing and trimming to keep their coats nice.

However, with the right little friend for Toby, I am sure he will love it.

Thanks, I'm getting one tomorrow hopefully after work. I'm thinking about bringing him down to the pet shop and letting him see his new buddy and see his reaction do you think this is a good idea?

Have you considered going to a rescue instead of a pet shop? You know that pet shops are very bad for selling sick piggies and miss-sexing often resulting in selling pregnant piggies (not to mention the conditions in which gps are bread).
A rescue will also be able to tell you about the personality of the pig so you have more chances of them getting on.
If you get your pig from a shop remember that you will need to quarantine them too.
The choice is obviously yours but I think you will be better off going to a rescue all round.

I would love to get one at a rescue centre but there aren't any near me >.<

I have to agree with Laure.

And if they don't get along, the rescue should be happy to take the piggy back for you, so that they can re-home it again.

That is a shame if there isn't ... I am sure that you have already done a search on the internet for rescues, but if you haven't then give it a go.

yeah but like I said there are really no rescue centre's near me at least not that I know of and I've been doing some rescue centre research and came up with nada :( Belfast sucks

Whereabouts are you? There are plenty of people who rescue on this forum and who also know many other rescues. I am sure someone can point you in the right direction.
Alternatively you could have a look at the free ads as there are always people looking to re-home piggies.

I live in Belfast Northern Ireland and most people here are from England :(

Sadly not everywhere has rescues nearby...

Good luck with your new pig, still be sure to isolate him to start with just in case he's got anything contagious - can never be too careful! Look forward to pics...

Yeah I know what you mean I would be devastated if anything got passed on to Toby. I know the obvious signs of ill health in piggys and am always careful to look for them.

Good luck with the new piggy tomorrow ... I think you said it was tomorrow, sorry if you said it wasn't.

Yes, quarantine him for a while and give him time to settle with you before introducing him to Toby.

Looking forward to hearing more on this thread.

Yeah I can't wait :) Toby has mites right now tho :( So I need to wait like 2/3 weeks before I can introduce a new piggy to him :(
