You need to get yourself some guinea pig nuggets such as Burgess Excel.

Your piggie should have unlimited hay supply and nuggets as she is still growing.

Veggies wise things such as....spring greens, romaine lettace, coriander, parsley, celery, cucumber. Piggies should only have a very small amount of sweet foods so not too much fruit or carrot.

Hope this helps

Ours love cherry tomatoes sliced in half :))
We have tried various pellets over time and have reverted back to the Wagg Optimum as it seems to be the one they favour and is available in our local supermarket.
They occasionally like the Burgess Excel Blackcurrant/Oregano as well but prefer the Wagg. I just put their bowls in daily and an extra small dish in the evening with some Excel as an alternative so it's available if they want it. They don't like the Excel plain nuggets rolleyes

Tomatos are OK but not daily - they can cause mouth sores.

Please feed:
- up to 80% of the daily intake should be hay
- good quality pellets (preferably to muesli); unlimited until growth slows down between 6-9 months, then slowly reduced to the 1 or 1/2 handful an adult piggy needs from 12-15 months old.
- 50g/1 cupful of mixed veg daily in as many servings as you like. Please include either 1 slice of pepper of any colour, a bit of broccoli, some fresh coriander, parsley, dill or basil everyday - that way you can make sure that your piggies are getting enough vitamin C
- fresh water without additives (you can't control the intake and will get an algae problem in no time!)

Here is a list of what veg they can eat: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=17

- daily: cucumber, celery, some cabbages, fresh grass (make sure that dogs can't pee on it - that is poisonous), fresh herbs.
- Tomatoes, carrot and carrot tops, lettuce (especially Romaine, but all lettuces and carrots are very high in vitamin A); fruit like melon, apple, pears, strawberries (including green bits), grapes; green beans and fresh sweetcorn should not be fed daily, but can be rotated and fed 2-3 times a week.
- You can feed sweetheart cabbage, savoy, spring greens, cauliflower leaves and broccoli, but introduce them slowly to avoid bloating. Avoid all the other cabbages (gassy!).
- Sweet potatoes are a veg and can be fed.
-Spinach and kale are very high in calcium and should only be fed occasionally.
-Big no nos: anything from the onion family, potatoes, mushrooms, some varieties of avocado (highky toxic to guinea pigs), pet shop treats that contain any form of dairy, fats and sugar. iceberg lettuce - no nutrition.

i went down to the pet store today and now had the pellet food so i got the wagg just for the weekend and will try to get some pellet food on monday. i also got her veggies at the moment she's nibbling away on a cucumber :) thank you all for the help..

Don't waste the Wagg food, it's fine for them, just mix it in with the pellets & they will eat it :))

Are they babies? If they are I believe they can have unlimited hard food, so just a small bowl, kept topped up that can be left in there all day/night for them to graze on :)

Don't forget lots of nice hay too! Timothy and meadow hay are ideal, she can also have some alfalfa (as she is well under a year old) and if you can splash the cash you could maybe treat her to some oxbow orchard grass, it smells like tea bags *inhales* ah, delicious! :))

p.s if you're near a wilkinsons, they sell good quality meadow hay for £2.20. It's a good sized bag so should last your piggie quite while.

oops! just saw that you don't live in the uk! :p don't think there will be a wilkinsons near by! (but you should be able to still get most of the other types of hay)

Pixie sounds like a lovely pig! I bet she's got you wrapped around her piggy paw! x>>

Hay is so nice to smell isn't it? i often stand there in the shop smelling which is the best bag. I don't smoke or anything, so I suppose this is my alternative! :))

yes thats her if you look at the introduction section ive posted more photos of her.

I'm not sure what shes is dont really know how to name them. would be nice if someone would point it out for me. I'm looking for a female friend for her would any kind of guinea pig do ?

In terms of long haired, short haired or even spikey haired it's mostly down to personal preference and the amount of time you can dedicate to grooming them (and not forgetting the occasional bum bath!)

As pixie is only 3 months old you could possibly pair her up with an older female. If you have a local rescue near you, perhaps you could contact them and see if you can set up a piggy play-date :) this way you and pixie can meet different pigs and see which one is right for you.

So sorry to butt in on someone elses thread but was wondering how much veg a 5 week old should be having?I gave him a tiny piece of baby carrot for breakfast,a tiny bit of apple for dinner and a little piece of yellow pepper for tea.He eats it as soon as i turn my back, dont want him to get a poorly tummy but dont want him to have a rumbley tummy either! He does have timothy hay and muesli type food down all the time.
