So I just got a new 4 week old guinea pig. Can a female baby and an 1 year old guinea pig bond?

Is the one year old also female or a neutered Male? In any case you’ll just have to try and see.

As the baby is so young you’ll have to forego quarantine and introduce them soon as. Their need for guidance takes priority over quarantining.

What do you mean when you say "their need for guidance" guidance how?

They need guidance from an older piggy on how to socialise and be a piggy etc. Up to four months of age is like school for them.

Oh ok gotcha. Thx you. I heard that bonding females is way easier than males and that they won't attack baby's cuz they don't view them as a threat is that true?

Boars are given a bad reputation for whatever reason. They won’t attack the baby and are no more likely to not get on with baby than sows. The important thing is character matching and not age. Just be aware that when the baby reaches the teenage months there may be some ruckus etc if he tries to become top pig.

Please read through the bonding guide as well as dominance behaviours. And make sure you do it on neutral ground and not just put the baby in the older piggies’ cage.

:agr: Bonding females and bonding males, or bonding a female with a neutered male is no different - it can succeed or fail in exactly the same way. It is untrue that males are harder to bond - it all comes down character compatibility, not age or sex
