I got a new guinea pig named Lily 18 days ago. I got her from a pet store, and I learned the hard way that was a terrible terrible idea.
She is about 2 months old. 16 days after having her I look in her snuggle sack and she had 2, still born, premature babies. This happened 2 nights ago. She ate the head of one, which I know can happen when guinea pigs give birth. It was very disturbing, sad, and completely unexpected. The guinea pigs were born with no hair and totally undeveloped so I am sure this was a miscarriage. I am guessing she was around a boar either at the breeder or pet store.
After I took the bodies away she began to come out and eat again. I thought everything was okay, although that was a terrible experience for her, myself and my bf- and she was acting normal again.
However, tonight I just noticed that she is limping on her right front leg, and has a head tilt to the right. I read that a head tilt can mean she has an ear infection. I do not have an emergency vet who sees guinea pigs anywhere near me and it is Friday. But would a head tilt which is caused by an ear infection also cause her to limp? Or is the limp causing her to tilt her head? When she limps she also closes her paw up and pick it up pretty high. She is still running around and eating.
If anyone has any idea whether this is an ear related issue, or a leg related issue- any advice on what I can do in the meantime until I can see a vet would be greatly appreciated.

She needs to see a vet visit lease let us know how you get on

She could be pulling the leg up and clenching her paw because of the pain on that side of the face or she could have a neurological issue- either way she needs to see a vet. As you say she has had a traumatic time with the miscarriage and would need a check up after this anyway. Hope you can find a vet soon. Have U checked the recommended vet locator on the forum ? Most vets are open Saturday's with some even on a Sunday too. Good luck

Hi guys I was able to take her to the vet Monday. She had stopped limping and head tilting after a day, but after that and the pregnancy I took her in anyways. I live in the U.S. kind of in the middle of nowhere so my exotic pet vet options are limited. The doctor examined her and said she seemed okay and she should be fine, but if she starts limping again we are going to do an x-ray. So far she is doing much better and is running around more!
However, she was clenching her paw when that was going on so thanks for letting me know it could be a neurological issue, if it happens again I will tell the vet about that. It is hard being in a town where vets are not too educated on guinea pigs and the closest exotic vet is 4 hours away but I will need to take her there if it is neurological. <3
