Hiya everyone, i'm about to be a new guinea pig mummy to 3 Male piggys, so excited i get them from a friend on Friday!

What do i need to know?
How do i set up their cages?
can they be litter trained like Rabbits can ?
etc

any information is most welcome ?/

Hi and welcome!

How old are your boys? Boars go through a hormonal phase between 4-14 months old when they are more prone to fights and fall outs. You will also brace yourself for a renewal of the dominance in a new home = new territory.

Generally we recommend to give boars as much space as possible - for three boars that means 2x6 ft or more rather than the RSPCA minimum recommendation of 2x5 ft.

Guinea pigs cannot be fully litter trained; some are tidier than others. They are ground roaming animals and do not need to be as tidy as rodents that live in the same place for their whole life. Generally, they tend to have peeing corners, but you will find poos all over the place.

Please do not mix guinea pigs and rabbits. Guinea pigs need vitamin C in their diet, as they can't make it in their bodies, unlike rabbits; they have also other different dietary requirements.

More inspiration for housing solutions and a good diet you can get in the appropriate sections.

PS: We would be very grateful if you could add your rough location (country/state US or county UK). We are an international forum and the advice and links can differ quite a bit depending on where you are based. You can do this in User CP/edit profile/location.

Hi there. I would only take two boars as they will fall out and you will end up needing to separate them and having to find a friend for the third one. With boars you need to ensure you have as much space as possible. I really recommend making a c and c cage so they can have lots of room. You also need to have two of everything so they do not fight over things.

Thank you for all your help and advice, i am in the uk, and they will all be 8 weeks old when i get them next week what is a c and c cage? and where exactly can i buy one of these?thank you all

A C&C cage is a versatile cage made from grids that can be more than one level and extended at need. Have a look in our housing section and you will see lots of examples in our cage gallery!

If I were you, I would plan for a flexible setup so that you can divide your cage at any given time. It is sadly very rare for boys to make it through the big hormones as a trio without either one boar with either one boy bullying the others or two boars turning against the third. But here in Britain, you always have the option to "boar date" a single boar under expert supervision at a good rescue for a stable bond that is based on character compatibility.

you can leave the new born in with the parents for about 3 weeks until you need to separate them for obvious reasons. i cant remember much more.
good luck! :))

We had 3 boys who lived together for about a week. Then two and now they are all in cages on their own.

Boys are a pain in the bum.

However they are all getting women piggies in a few weeks, so ha ha ha ha ha, bet they wished they stayed mates.
