Well I know Fizzi just went to Rainbow Bridge yesterday! :0
Missing her greatly, very strange having only 2 guinea pigs!:(

But I wondered would it be possible to introduce a baby sow to Boris (neutered boar) & Piglet (sow). What age would be best?
This will not be happening until mid September or October!
Any ideas!

It wouldnt need to be a baby sow, an adult sow should be fine! Babies are best bonded as a baby boar to adult boar but in the case of sows, not necessary. You could try your local rescue or the RSPCA and see if they have any and you could bring your two to see how they get along with her xoxo

I think babies sows are more inclined to take bottom place in the pecking order. Adult sows may be used to being lone pigs or tog pig, and this would mean a power struggle, that could cause fighting. It depends on the pigs. Unfortunately there is no definative answer.

I too think an adult sow could be preferable, some adult sows are still laidback and submissive. My Blackberry Pie is probably the oldest pig I have and she was the 2nd to last to be integrated and you wouldnt have guessed id put her in, she just walked around with the others not making a fuss.

It entirely depends on the prospective piggies personality.

so sorry for your loss gaile

so sorry for your loss Gaile 8...

i wouldnt add to them just leave as they are :)

I have successfully bonded my lot into two groups of four. It can be done so if you want to add to your piggies go for it:))

Thanks everyone! I might just keep Boris & Piglet as they are!:))
They seem happy!

Also Ross seems quite happy to share Piglet & Boris with me & Jaye!:))

I found it quite hard introducing an adult sow to a neutered boar and my other sows (one of the females is very dominant). However it wasn't impossible and they've all lived happily for around 18 months now.

I know that Piggies leave a big hole when they go, but can you really replace Fizzi? If you have children getting a new piggie helps soften the blow but even then, children need to learn grieving as well as us adults! I would give it a couple of weeks at least, mainly to give the other piggies there time to become aware that Fizzi has gone..

I know you have had loads of support and I just wanted to say that when we lost Cuzzy it did affect even me 8...

There is plenty of time and no rush, I know this sounds funny but enjoy the grieving, as you must have had lots of good memories of Fizzi that make you smile :)

:)p :)p :)p

I hadn't even mentioned it to Ross about getting a new guinea pig!
We have had many pets over the years that have died or pts sleep and my children know that you can never replace a pet!
My daughter Jaye, still after 2yrs misses the family rabbit Harvey!
I was just thinking about getting a new piggy,
but have decided not to get another guinea pig.
