I bought my guinea pig on Sunday and he has some injuries; a scar behind one ear, a cut behind the other and a tear in one ear aswell, I want to buy him a cage friend but I am not sure weather he was fighting with the other pigs.

P.S He is 4 months old.

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear your piggy has some injuries, if they are scabbing over ok and not sore I would just let them heal or bathe gently in boiled (cooled) salt water.

4 months is quite old for a pet shop piggy, they are usually only 6-8 weeks, had he been there a while?

Might be best to let him settle before trying to find him a friend, it's a difficult age though as he's almost a teenager in guinea years. Perhaps a baby boar would suit, if there is a rescue near you they may be able to help you bond him with another

He looks very much like he was in a fight and came off the worse for it, poor boy!

As he is at a difficult age (the hormones are about to hit him and he is too young for neutering, yet, to go with a female), you might want to think whether you want to find him a baby friend or try and bond him with an older, laid-back boar.

The very best would be, if you could find a rescue near you that has both (not easy) and would be prepared to either bond him for you or let you come with him and let him choose his new companion himself (not all will do that).
I have done it twice with a bereft piggy, and while my personal favourite was never chosen, I always had a great relationship between the new pair!

You can find a list of rescues on this website: http://www.guineapigrehome.org.uk

I hope that your litle boy will settle in well over the next few days.
Good luck!

Thank You for your help they are scabbing over fine and he has settled in quite well. I am going to buy some vet bed today so that nothing irritates him. The only rescue we have in the area is a RSPCA place and on the website there is no other boars at the centre so I will keep on looking and then take it from there.

Thanks Again

Freya

oh noooo that's sad 8... i'm glad he's with you now tho, he'll now have a lovely home with food and TLC x)
yep agree with my lovely friends that he needs a mate, but best to let him settle a bit and then go to a rescue where he can actually 'choose' a friend, there's so many in the UK that will allow you to do that, wonderful idea :)
Welcome to the forum from us in OZ (aka Australia) :)
I have two girls at the moment, i'm used to boars but now being trained by my girls :(|)
If you see any other problems with the scars etc...i'd be off to the vets as you may need antibiotics.....hopefully bathing in cooled water will solve the problems tho, as advised by Sophie and then Vickyt has given you a great site to check out xxxxxxxxx
