Hi everyone~
I just got two guinea pigs today! xx>>> It was given to me by someone. Unfortunately the owner forgot to bring me their food =(

1) What should I feed them with for now, until I can buy some food for them tomorrow?

2) What food should I buy from the pet store tomorrow? I have [*]nothing[/*]. I read I need pellets, hays, veggies, and fruits. Is that true? Anything else? Could you specify what pellets and hays I should consider (also the brand, if possible)?

3) How many meals does one guinea needs a day (they're about two yrs old)? How much in one meal? Could you tell me an ideal meal I should one guinea on a daily basis?

Thanks a lot!

Whereabouts are you? Someone may have some pellets they could let you have or some hay to see you through until tommorow.

If you haven't got hay, pellets and much veg at home right now, you can go and pick dandelion from a place where you are sure that dogs can't pee on - dog pee is poisonous to guinea pigs. The piggies will certainly survive until tomorrow when you have got time to do some proper shopping.

Here are tips about a good guinea pig diet:
These are all veg guinea pigs can eat; the ideal portion is 50g/1cupful of mixed veg per piggy per day in one or more servings.

Hay should be the biggest part part of their diet - as much as they can eat. Grass counts as hay, but you have to always have hay on offer. Have a look through the hay thread at the top of our food section; you can order hay over the internet. Timothy hay or meadow grass are always good.

Guinea pig pellets (better than muesli) should be given plenty until they are 6-9 months old, after that you can reduce them to a handful per piggy per day. Several brands are available in supermarkets if you are short of time; otherwise, there are several suppliers where you can order over the internet. I use Burgess Excel, which is available in Pets@home.
