Hello everybody,

I have just adopted two 8 week baby boy Guinea Piggies 😍😁

They are fairly used to being held as they have been in a rescue but obviously, they are only tiny. One is much braver than the other and is sat in the open and moving around a little bit.

The other is staying hidden currently - shall I just leave him be for now? I am worried he won’t get food or water if he’s hiding? (There is some hay in the little hidey and veg near the entrance).

Leave them be for at least 24 hours (longer if you can) just to settle in, apart from still topping up water and feeding. they will be more inclined to come out and eat and drink when they feel safe. So when it's quiet and calm for them. The more timid one will also more than likely follow the braver one around, your new piggies are lovely and soon enough you will be able to start being a companionship with them 😊 Good luck! And welcome to the forum!

He will come out and mooch about when it’s quiet and when your not around . I have hides holes for all mine but in all honesty they actually make shy animals shyer because they can run and hide . I would recommend leaving it in for anything up to a week then removing it and they honestly will get braver . I bought 2 teddy’s a few weeks ago and got them couriered and when they arrived they were mental, aggressive , biting , like wet bars of soap flying out my hands . I even named one Cruella because she was evil but I popped them in a hutch with some others . Ignored them for a few days then started handling them just on my lap . Cruella is now a soppy girl and relaxed but still working on her sister but softly , softly you’ll get there xx
