Okay well following on from my post on the £3.50 farm hay I bought I thought I would post some photos and also try and show you why I like to give a HUGE amount of hay.

First here is one of the bags of hay - I also had 2 green recycling bags full too but this is the big one

Here's the hay up close

And here are both the hay loft and the hay bar totally stocked (but pigs in the garden)

More to follow.....

Sorry for the sideways photo - my photobucket it always doing it lately :a19:

Okay spot Gypsy in the hay

Then Bessie

She's very camera shy and hates photos

Finally in that cage Mork

These three esp LOVE hay - they make tunnels and do their best with the smallest amount of hay and when I was paying £40 for a shipment from the dust free hay co I was more stingy than I am now. So they are very pleased indeed!

Joanne that's one of THREE!

Yes I know :)), I'm interested in the box :)). If you were to order that exact box of oxbow how much hay do you get!?

Sorry I can't concentrate these days, I forgot to say thats alot of hay and we don't get enough pigtures of mork. More please :).

You get 22.5kg of either orchard grass or timothy hay.

By accident I ordered 2 orchard grass and 1 timothy hay.

It works out at £60 for the 22 kg and it would save you loads if you are already buying it in smaller bags.

Mork defo needs more photos taken - he's ace!

IT IS! :))

I couldn't cope with the whole on the side thing - call it OCD or whatever!

Joanne you know that box is as big as a washing machine right?

looks like the piggies were enjoying lollying about in the hay, i use farm hay for the same reasons!

The farm hay looks lovely and lush. Piggies look very happy. I also use farm hay although I tried some samples of Burns and Oxbow recently. My pigs have now decided they prefer to eat the farm hay! :(|)

Woooooooah, that's a lot of hay!

How often do you have to clean it out/replace it all?

Joanne are your piggies upstairs or down? as have you tried to lift/drag 22kg of hay. I love it when our courier comes to pick one up for a delivery, he is the most unfit, grumpiest person I know and he huffs and puffs and his little face goes red as a beetroot trying to get it down our garden path and of course being a man he wont accept any help from a woman:))
The box is HUGE!!

I do it every day. Hence it's been costing so much with dust free stuff.

But they get so excited every single day when the hayboxes have been cleaned and re-filled.

This thread is really useful. Loving the piccies too. ;)

I have mentioned in another thread re which is the best of recommended hay to buy, but just wonder if anyone can tell me what I should start mine on.

Maisy is 4/5 years and was on very crappy hay to start, then I used the meadow hay from our Countrywide store. Have recently started to mix in the Burgess Excel dandelion/timothy hay, which I must say, that both Maisy and Dotty love. The meadow hay seems to be left behind.

I would dearly love your recommendations to put my mind at rest. I'm in a bit of a worrying state at the mo after losing Daisy and nothing is going right. I want to start little Dotty (17 weeks old) off on the right track and do my best for Maisy too.

I understand I shouldn't feed just the Dandelion timothy hay on it's own, but mix with other hay.........is that right? I've started mixing it now with the meadow hay, but they soon finish off the lovely green timothy. Only bought a 1kg of this burgess hay last week and it's nearly gone.

What do you think I should try? Thank you. :) Hope no one thinks I've hijacked this thread.

Beth you so didn't hyjack any thread, don't worry. :)

Have you tried the sample pack of 6 types of hay from Animal Magic pet supplies? I know loads of people have tried that and it's meant they could pick a hay that their guineas could eat all the time and was their favourite.

Personally I would say just get started with Oxbow, either Orchard Grass or Timothy - it's very green, parasite free due to rules on it being imported to the UK and I don't have a pig that doesn't like it. But I think you get one of each of those in the sample packs from Animal Magic if you would prefer to do that.

I got 25kg of woodshavings last week (for the bunny shed and piggy hutches) and I could lift it (just about) and I'm a tiny woman! :) Silly grumpy man.

No joke it really IS that big.

Doesn't last long either with 12 hungry mouths to feed.

Aww, thank you Lisa. To think your only just up the road from me too, hee hee.

I will check this out tomorrow when I get a free mo in work. The variety bag/s sound like a good idea. So long as they're happy, I am. Just worrying a bit too much lately over different things and just want them to have what is good for them.

Thanks for that info Lisa. Will let you know how I get on. :)

Another hay question! Haha

I too would go for the sample packs first and see what your girls like. Mine went mad for the oxbow range, also try p@h for the alfalfa king timothy hay, that is also very green and great quality. :)

Hi, I'm so sorry to be a pain, but I've just been looking at the animal magic pet supplies website for this sample hay and can't find it. I've only looked in the food section so far though and have just come up with this, in the following link. Is this it?

http://www.animalmagicpetsupplies.c...ObjectPath=/Shops/BT3336/Products/excelbundle

Does anyone recommend the beetroot treats etc? I haven't got any treats at all for mine, just worried over what is okay for them and don't want to give treats etc too high in calcium/vit c. Worry bum I know. :{

Am sorry, my page doesn't seem to have loaded properly and I couldn't see the hay section, just the accessories, food and housing. Whoops, will go and check now. 'Embarrassed'
