Hi all! My name is sacha and I am new! I am getting a pair of female guinea pigs in sept and me and the kids are very excited ! I would like to know as much as possible before they arrive and have been doing lots of research!
One question do you feed them pellets for brekkie and then fresh veg for dinner? Or how many meals a day?
Also I hear the care fresh bedding is best to line cage with but this is soo expensive! What do you guys use? I don't want to use fleece as cant do anymore waging as already have 3 kids! ;)

Many thanks

Sacha x

Welcome!

There is loads of info and experience on here to help you get the best for your new arrivals.

Bedding is very much a personal preference, some people use carefresh, some wood shavings (dust extracted ones are best otherwise it can create problems), some use fleece or vet bed, some use newspaper and hay. It is worth trying a few things and seeing what works for you, what the piggies like and what works for your budget.

Piggies are hungry little things and will eat as much as you give them but here's a link to guide for veggies etc. http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?42-Vegetables-Shopping-List

Pellets are better than museli type food as piggies tend to be a bit fussy and will eat the bits of museli they like and leave the rest so they don't get a balanced diet. Pellets are all the same so avoid these problems.

When your little ones arrive, let them settle in in peace for a day or two before introducing them to the kids. Depending where they are coming from it is also worth getting a vet check to make sure they are healthy and are actually both girls! It is unfortunately common for pet shops to mis-sex piggies resulting in surprise babies...

I look forward to seeing some pictures of the new arrivals!

Welcome to the forum, is wonderful that you are doing your research first. Hay is really important in a guinea pig's diet and so make sure they always have access to unlimited hay in addition to controlled amounts of pellets and fesh veg.

hello Sacha,

Welcome to the forum!

Very exciting you are joing the world of piggies.

Food wise they need around a cup of fresh veggies per pig per day normally split into breakfast and tea, unlimited hay at all times and some fresh pellets morning and evening

A list to the food and veg they can eat is here in this great sticky http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?42-Vegetables-Shopping-List

Also mid way through this threads first post it gives you an idea on the frequency of what veg to feed as some veg is best fed less than others http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/...sphorus-Ratios-Explained-Diet-Advice-included

I would also suggest getting signed up with a vet knowledgable in piggies in can save a lot of hassle further down the line, here is a link to a recomended vets map http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?105769-Guinea-Pig-Recomend-Vets-Map

Once you have your girls, if you get a free photobucket account you can easily share photos of them on this site by following details in this thread http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/...ial-Posting-Pictures-In-Threads-(Photobucket)

Any other questions please just ask away!
