Hi all,

I am after some advice.
Finally after months of whining (at Dad/ Husband) my 2 children and I are going to pick up our 2 little brothers tomorrow.
We have a large garden but the best place to put the newbies is beside the garage wall.
Plenty of protection from winds etc.
But it currently has pebbles.

What do you suggest?
We have excess paving slabs but I'm frightened they may find a way out.
I want them near ish to the front of the garden near the house.
We have excess carpet but wondered if that would cause any kind of bacteria etc. Or they may chew it and hurt themselves.

The hutches I have looked at all have 2 storeys and a run underneath.

Your help is greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forum! It's great to hear you're going to become a piggy parent! :D

Hutch wise for two boys I wouldn't go any smaller than a 2ft by 5ft as they need the room for all their testosterone! :)) Unfortuantely it only counts as flat space (so one storey) as they need the room to get away from each other if they want to. You could get a 2x5ft two storey if you wanted to though, it would be worth checking the ramp however as if it's too steep they'll likely have difficulty using it, mine always have!

There's a Great & Small jumbo hutch that would be good, it's big enough, one storey and it's made by sturdy wood rather than the thin ones that will probably need replacing due to them being a bit on the flimsy side.

Hope that helps! :)

Hi

Thanks Cavy Kung-Fu.
We are being given a 2 storey hutch and I don't know what it looks like.
I think it may have legs so I won't have an issue with pebbles etc lol.

I'm thinking of buying them a second one for up our caravan. Piggies that holiday lol.
But it's getting it up there in my car lol

Ah okay hopefully it's a biggun! :D

Ooh holidaying piggies! I believe @karonus has caravanning piggies unless I'm mistaken. I know there are quite a few threads on here about it so maybe they'll have an idea how to house them! :)

One is already called Bruce
But I fear the brother may have a girlie name if my daughter has anything to do with it...like sparkle or jewel...poor guinea pig haha.

Hi we have been taking piggies caravanning for 8 years now. We have a 110 cage that fits over the cooker and sink at night. We never leave ours outside.

In a caravan we have found piggies really chill out. For a couple of weeks we have found 4 manage in a 110 ferplast with outdoor time in a run.

How big is that? I suppose it's a bit different if it's a travel cage but I'd imagine boys would still fight in close quarters?

For more info and loads of pics of how it works. All i can say is that piggies chill like they have been smoking weed when in the van.
