I have had my piggies for just under a year and although they are not the tamest pair, they had settled pretty well and seemed happy enough. i bought them a new hutch as the one they were in was an old one i'd had for a few years and things have gone a bit downhill! They have not been downstairs in the new hutch and both are permenantly hiding in bedroom compartment (the old hutch was 2 storey and they were up and down all the time in fact the 2 hutches are very similar)

is this normal? are they just scared of new surroundings?

Thankyou!

How long have they been in the new hutch?

I would expect it to take them a little while to settle in, it just depends how long its been like this really!

Theys have have been in new hutch 48hours now. they are eating and pooing but everytime i check they are in corner of bedroom and definitely not showing any interest in venturing downstairs.

Although it may look similar it is a new home with a new smell. It will take them time to get used to it. Imagine you were put in a new similar house. It would take you time to adjust too!

What is the best thing for me to do to help them settle and adjust? should i just leave them to their own devices for a few days?

If you have any things from their old hutch, anything fleecy that hasnt been washed, any houses that you changed when getting the new hutch, You could pop those in. Otherwise stick to whatever routine you had before so they dont get too worried.

48 hours is not long, I really wouldnt worry to much just yet! :) They are still adjusting.
