Hi everyone,

I just made my boys a 1 by 2 loft for their c and c cage, i want to turn this loft into a kitchen in order to decrease the messes they make on the fleece on the bottom story. it has been up since early sunday and they still wont even go anywhere near the ramp, let alone up into the loft. Is there anything i can do or is it normal to take a while for pigs to go up into a new loft.

pictures to follow if they would better describe the new loft.

thanks for any opinions!

I got hold of my pigs and "walked" them up the ramp an put them in the loft after a while i decided to give them a nudge to walk down the stairs after they new what delights were at the top of the ramp there was no more problems

i have already tried this multiple times, but i was afraid that doing it too much would just scare them into never going up again. I have put both boys up and they will come down on their own but they just wont go up!

have you tried putting treats all the way up their ramp?
Maybe they might feel more secure with a side on it?
Paws crossed they work it out soon x)

i have not tried treats so i will try that next thanks! those ramps are from their old cages (as they used to live seperately since one was my sisters and we decided they would be better together) and they used to use the ramp all the time so i think they are ok with no sides on it but i may be wrong

It took me a while to get one of my piggies to go up a ramp half the size. It looks a bit steep to me, I think mine would have had more of a problem with that. I think other people on here have put some kind of rough surface on their ramps to make it easier to get a grip. Perhaps if you could that they would feel more secure? As someone else said maybe put sides on. I know how frustrated I was when I got my new cage and had to get them used to the ramps.

I thought it looked a little bit steep too. I am not a fan of ramps having seen a piggy fall off one before, I think sides would help reassure them a bit.

I thought it was a bit steep but then i realised it's very similar to mine:)) I use cat scratching board's they have some rope carpet on them for grip and mine are fine on it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lovely-Large-...2?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Cats&hash=item3a5eee0156
you can also prop the ramp up with a hidey or the bendy willow log's to make it less steep http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/members/3piggiepigs-albums-cage-liner-picture6759t-044.jpg

I did that to start with too. I used the striped chubes I had for them already. It does help.

I found that by raising the ramp up a bit to make it less steep the pigs found it easier to use. You could try using a wooden bendy tunnel bent into an "L" shape underneath the bottom end of the ramp.

I also use bent grids to give my ramps sides and the pigs seem happier with this arrangement - here are a couple of pics.

why dont you use guttering as the ramp lined with a towel its a lot better and they feel safer, to me it looks steep and not very sturdy... you can fix the guttering ramp on with duck tape x

THANKS so much everyone, as of today they have finally decided to go up the ramp, i think i will buy one of those logs things to go at the end just to make it a little less steep thanks for all of your suggestions
