Hello- today i lost one of my guinea pigs. Daisy- my neutered female guinea pig died suddenly and has left Dave my neutered male.
I have a few questions: i don't want him to be lonely- should i wait to find him a new friend? or do this asap?
Although Daisy was a female- is there a feeling as to what is best- another female? or a boar?
Thanks for any advice.

I would go with another sow as I think they are bonded easier. I wouldn’t wait too long as depression can set in quickly and the weight soon drops off them. I’d weigh him daily to keep an eye on him. It was only a few days for one of mine before I had to get him a friend and then you’ve got the quarantine period so the sooner the better really.

So sorry for your loss.
I’m inclined to agree with @Kath Thompson about getting a female.
With Dave already neutered you won’t have to wait as long and he will probably bond more easily with a sow.
Do let us know what you decide

I’m sorry for your loss.
A sow is definitely the correct choice for Dave. If you use the rescue locator Recommended Guinea Pig Rescues
You will find your nearest approved rescue who can help you find a sow or sows for Dave long term. However, as long as he is not acutely pining there is no urgency.

Thank you all for replies. I will search for a sow. He is very sad and confused so will start looking. I'll let you all know how i get on. Thanks for advice and words of support. My two children are devastated.
