Monty & BB

Hi, :)p
My names Nicola, pending a home check tomorrow we should be hopefully getting 2 boars via sokel....one all chocolate & one light brown, tan & white. My little boy has already picked the names Monty & BB.

Weve never kept piggies before so any useful info would be much appreciated, I'm slowly having a look on all the threads to try and pick up any useful tips. Weve got an outdoor hutch & run & an indoor hutch for night times over winter. When we get them should we leave them to settle in for a few days with no handling, or start as we mean to go on, handling every day etc?

Will post some pics of our new boys hopefully next week all being well.

Hi Nicola and welcome to the forum! You mus b very excited to be getting piggies...esp for the first time!

Some people say not to handle them straight away - i think this is rubbish, ive had piggies for 17 years of my life and always handled them straight away - maybe not as much as you would usually but still interact with them!

Piggies are very social animals and love cuddle time! hold them as much as you can. I do for 30mins every morning, then during the day for bout 20mins (or my mum does) and they come out and sit on the sofas for about 2 hours each evening and watch the soaps with me! lol they love it!

Looking forward to seeing the piccies!

Some people may disagree with me but I've always started as I mean to go on and handled them from day one. I have eight pigs and despite my treatment of them all being equal I have some that absolutely love a cuddle and will approach me and the children and others that make me catch them and are somewhat fidgety.

Personally at this time of year I would just keep them inside and introduce them to the garden when the temperature rises again since taking pigs from one extreme of temperature to another can lead to health problems. I have pigs both inside and out but my outside pigs do not come into the house during the winter months for this very reason.

Welcome by the way look forward to seeing pictures of your piggies when you get them:)

thanks for the info, looks like we may be getting them this friday, fingers crossed.
Getting really excited. I'm just a bit worried 2 wont be enought and I'm gunna want to get more :))

Here they are....

Here are our 2 new lads, monty is the sheltie cross - cinnamon & agouti & BB is the chocolate Peru, Ive left them settling in to their new home. Both very jumpy but I'm sure they will settle in fine.

Thanks so much to Susie & Sokel Guinea Pig rescue.

My gorgeous boys.... :<>

When I joined this forum I had 4 Guineas I now have......21!

Your boys are gorgeous! x) Give them a cuddle from me! :)xx>>>

They're gorgeous. And you are right to be worried... two is never enough! He he. Try not to click on the Rescue Centre bit of the forum. It never worked for me, I should take my own advice. That's my usual first call. Helen and Graham have lovely piggies, my two little girls came from them and they're lovely, settled in really well. Good Luck. x

Well I think two neutered boars will get along better? Although I'm not sure. Also you have to check boars ...boy goods lol heres some info on impaction http://www.comfycavies.com/Health/AI.htm which is not very nice lol.
Supa guinea pig food is great, I made the mistake of having Gerty Guinea pig which has lots of artificial colours and stuff in it. So I would recommend Supa my vet recommends it too :)

Hi Nicola,

Just spotted this thread about the two boys. I just love the names you gave them. Susie tells me you are thrilled with them - so pleased that they have found their forever home with you. They are so cheeky and its that little bit quieter here without them.................

Love Helen.
(Sokel GPR).

Hi and welcome to the forum and the addictive world of guinea pig ownership! @)

Your two boys look great and I am sure that you and your family will have lots of pleasure from them. They sound very lucky piggies.

As has been said above, once you have piggies you usually want more. I have owned piggies for over 17 years now .... I currently have nine ... two I collected yesterday from the RSPCA at Walsall (Milly & Molly) and yes, I did look in the Rescue Section of the forum and that is where I saw them and fell in love with them. So be warned! :))

Look forward to hearing how your guys progress and some more pictures ... I am sure you will have fun!

I met these two lovely lads when I was up in Gretna the other week - they are stunning and it sounds like that have a truely wonderful new home :)
