Hey,

New on here :). Took on an unwanted guinea pig today. Looking forward to finding out more about how to care for him and meeting other people with piggys.
 
Welcome to the Forum - it's a very friendly place, with lots of advice available. What is your piggy's name, and may we please see photographs.
 
He's called crazy and lives up to his name! He's very scared at the moment and has patches on his skin which we think may be mites which he is being treated for. Hopefully we can get him back to good health and have a happy piggy :). According to his last owner he is very aggressive with other guinea pigs and that's why he is on his own, but they don't like living alone? Any suggestions on what I could do?

Welcome to the forum :)p, I'm quite new here too but you will find it a really warm and friendly site - it's easily the best forum I've been on.

Your little un is absoultely gorgeous - soooo cute ^). There are loads of people on here who know masses about piggies so you'll get all the help you need.

He is so handsome! How old is he? Often an older (adult) boar will pair up with a baby boar (as young as possible) that's what we try and do with any single boars here. If you can take him to a local rescue they might let him choose his own friend... that's usually best. Well done for taking him, he's gorgeous

Thanks all for your kindness :). I think that he is around 8 months old. I was thinking that going to a rescue would be a good idea as it will be best to let him choose a friend without the hassle of taking them on and them not getting along and that rescue centres will have more experience than me (not much at the moment!) and so can help too.

He also has lots of bald patches and scabs on him. He has been treated for mites and we have sprayed his hutch (without him in it!) as we thought this could be the reason but does anyone else have any ideas what else it could be? Will be going to the vets in a couple of days as he doesn't appear to be in any discomfort and we want to see if the medicine he has had has made any difference.
 
Hiya and welcome to the forum. Ive been a member for a couple of months now and it really is a fantastic place to get advice from the more experienced piggy owners. Your boy looks very handsome and we can look forward to hearing how he gets on.
 
hi, i've been here a little while to and it is fab! i started wit 1 a couple of months ago, and have 3 now, all boys. the 1st one was about 6 months when i got him, and he's very placid, gets on fine with others, then i got 2 babies a few weeks ago, one lives happy with my older boy, the odd squabble over the biggest bit of carrot or something, but nothing major, however the second baby has proven to be consistently aggressive towards the other two, one 8 mnts older, 1 same age as him. so i've kept him separate cage, where he can see the other for now, and am planning to get him newtered when he is 6 months old, ans pair him with a girl....lots of people on here seem to have done this, and they all tell me this works very well when they wont live with other boys, i keep hearing girl boy pair works best, although my boy boy pair do really well, and i know others do too, i'm in ireland, and the vet i have chosen to do the deed, is very very good, with experience with piggies-vip- , but they charge approx 100 euro here.....a bit pricey, but if he's gonna live for 7-10 years, i think it's worth it. when i got the first pig his first friend, he turned into a diff pig, sooo much happier, more relaxed with me and much friendlier, and they talk away to each other when i cant play! so i deff recommend doing what ever you can to get your new baby a buddy! good luck, you're gonna love being a piggie mum!
