New Mum to Borris and Bobo just a little advice please :)

Hi well i have two little cute bundles of fluff :) who we All Love, I'm just a little confused as to how to judge if they are settling in well and comfortable with us ?
it was suggests that we sit by read a book and just observe them, and we have we also just watch from from the house to see what they get upto right now they are having a run around in there Run and "jumping" but I'm trying to work out if they are fighting or not as they are totally new to us ! also while holding them last night they Both wet on me ! but they are also very loving and talk to each other, and when you stroke them they make a funny little noise of enjoyment
and how long does it really take to settle them in ? i also look after children and have taking a single child to the pen each day to help me to put them in the run then at the end of the day my daughter helps me put them back, am i doing too much with them right now ?
 
Congratulations on your new arrivals. New piggies often just hide for days so it sounds as though your two are settling in well. Most of my piggies have piddled on me, just make sure you rest them on a towel to avoid any wet clothes. The jumping you mention sounds like popcorning, which is the term given to the movement a piggie makes when its happy. fighting normally involves teeth chattering and the piggie rocking back and forth on its legs. Keep us posted on how they get on, but it sounds as though they are settling in well...

Oh brilliant ! I'm feel soo much better now :) i worry soo much about them right now as i just want to give them the best possible care and to also make sure that they get used to al sorts of children cuddling them and helping me with them, as they are our childrens pets :)
 
Hi and welcome!

How quickly piggies settle in depends on how much human contact they have had before coming to you. The best thing is to set up a firm routine with using the same words/sounds with the same melody, so the boys will learn to know what is coming up. It usually takes a few weeks until they are fully at home and comfy with their routine, but yours sound already well on the way.

As long as the children are always under your supervision when being around the piggies and are in your judgement old and trustworthy enough to handle them, then you are OK - the responsibility lies with you, as does their ultimate care, especially once the initial fasciantion is over!

You might like to create a pick up conveyance of some sort in order to avoid wild chases which mean that the flight reflex is kicking in. A cosy, a folded towel, a padded shoe box with one end cut off or an upturned, padded pigloo all do the trick. You carry them with the opening against your body, so they can't jump out midway. You can entice the boys in woth a little veggie treat. Please give them a day or two to get comfy with the shuttle before lifting them up with it.

Use an old towel when having a piggy on your lap. Most piggies will give you a sign when they need to pee. They go wiggly, start tweaking pullovers or fingers or squeak. Learn which are the signs your boys use!

i bet you will get loads of really silly questions ! i had to laugh last night while haveing a evening sat in front of the flatty they both widdled on me but i had my trusty towel so didnt get soggy like the day before :)

although i do need something to secure the run and hutch with as i had little hands in the run and my daughter holding them for a cuddle while i popped to the loo !grrrr " now blushing " my heart sank with horror what if they had let them run round the garden and they had run off ! so its time to take action to stop it happening again as i fear just observing the children and boundries is not enough ! :0 but i need them to feel safe in there little homes

I Love watching them doing there funny little happy jumps :) rolleyes
