New owner new pig.

Hi.
Just taken on my friends 1 year old boar last week and realized that he needed a mate. Got him neutered Friday and bought him a baby girlfriend yesterday. I have not put them in together yet. Waiting for her to settle and him to heal. She is very skittish and I can't really pick her up yet. I have them in parallel runs and hutches. All advice would be gratefully received.

ok well you need to keep the boar apart for 6 weeks ideally as you do not want baby piggies, it is realy good that you can keep them side by side so they can chat and bond. Give her a little while to settle in and there is a sticky about what to do with new piggies, but she will come round with patience and learn to trust you it is just all a bit alien for her now

Hi congratulations on becoming a piggy owner. You will need to keep your pigs separate for 6 weeks in order for the boy not to be fertile. I think you will find that once they get used to the sound of your voice, and the noises in their environment, they will become a lot less skittish. The more they get used to you the less they will hide. Look forward to seeing some piccies of your new piggies. x

It is a good idea to have them next to each other. that way they are not alone and can make friends already over the next 4-6 weeks until your boy is safe!

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have - and post some pics when they have settled in, please!
 
No more advice but wanted to congratulate you on getting a piggy friend for the one you took on and for already keeping them next to each other, that will help each pig enormously.

I also can't wait to see some photos!

Good advice. A rescue centre told me that it was OK to introduce after 2 weeks and that they had never had accidents after this amount of time before being neutered. They are both chomping at the bit.
