Hello
We got our first 2 Guinea Pigs 3 days ago and we are already in love :)
Both Boars, they are not brothers but have been together since birth the lady we got them from wanted them to stay together as they are inseparable
Their names are Teddy (he is a teddy breed... i know not original name but my daughter named him lol) and Barnaby
The first day they where of course frightened of their new surroundings but today they came up to us to get some food and were also 'popcorning' with excitement after we changed their hay so i think they are doing well ..all new to me as we never owned guinea pigs before
any tips on helping them settle in would be great :)

Hi and welcome!

Please take the time to read our new owners' guide collection, which you may find very helpful. We have addressed the most often encountered issues on a wide range of subjects and combined them with need-to-know aspects that can help you avoid or minimise problems in the long term. We have included several guides on settling and making friends with your piggies, understanding guinea pig behaviour, care advice as well as help to learn what is normal and what not.

Use our piggy whispering tips to make friends with them and reassure them when you start handling. Avoid predatory behaviour as much as possible, especially during pick up.

Turn everything into routine with its own melody, so your boys learn to anticipate; this includes the weekly boar care as well as lap time. Piggies are suckers for praise and vocal encouragement and well as piggy kisses around the eyes. You will also have less/no issues with nibbling and tweaking, especially when your boys hit the teenage months,
Always handle, feed and treat your top boy first as is his right.

Awh they are so cute ^_^ i'm sure they will settle in nicely! Whoever is on the left looks like a fuzzier version of one of mine! (His name is Richard)View attachment 73824

Richard is gorgeous! The fuzzy one is Teddy (he is a teddy breed of Guinea pig hence his fuzzy coat) he was originally called thunder but my daughter loves the name teddy so it stuck, she is 8 and is doing great with them she cleans all their poop away twice a day and she goes and sits in their run with them chatting away to them and today was able to brush Barnaby while she was in there he loved it which is great as he is usually nervous!

How are they settling now? Well I hope!

They are doing great! we have not held them yet as they still seem nervous but we have been able to stroke them and hand feed veggies, and my daughter discovered tonight that barnaby loves being brushed he even laid down while she brushed him! We have also had popcorning from both of them daily so think this is a good sign?!

Good signs indeed, give a little lap time a try next week maybe for a short amount of time. Hand feeding is great, wow a piggy loving the brush! Impressive, you,are building up the bond slowly which is great, really pleased it is going so well :)

thanks :) we did try to pick them up a couple of days ago but they got scared so didn't push it, but they are definitely getting braver! yes was very surprised that Barnaby seems to like being brushed as he is the shyer one of the 2, teddy not so keen but thinking he may need brushing regular as he is a teddy? when they have a carrot we only let them have it if they come and get it from us and that has taught them very quickly to come to us (we gave them other veggies without having to come to us like cucumber peppers and courgettes) and we do limit carrots as know that too much carrot is bad. I think they are doing well, they have been together since babies although not brothers xx

We never brushed our teddy piggie, she really didn't need it, it is only the long haired piggies that may need regular brushing.

Have a look at this video here for picking them up, it helps take the stress out How To Pick Up And Weigh Your Guinea Pig

I think you are doing really great :)
