littlepiggy

The other day i bought 2 new gold fish from our local pet shop and i was asked to write my name, address and signature in a book :o

she said it was new rules that had come in force :police: that they need names, addresses and signatures of everyone buying pets.

As anybody else heard of this ?

Is it ?
the last pet i bought was little piggy last august must have come in since then
sorry i`m a 98)

LOL ! every pet i bought from a pet shop name & address are taken but i spose in small shops may not be the case

just been with my younger sister to get 2 gerbils and the pet shop never asked us for any details

ive never had this before with pet shops, but when i bought lola i had to give my details, and when my mum bought the tortoises from a reptile place she had to give our address and everything.

its probably neither good or bad, they dont do anything with your details like check to see if everything is ok or anything, make sure the animal is healthy and settling in ok because most pet shops care about profit which is why a lot of them dont care about the mixed sex cages etc..

on the other hand they do have your details incase anything goes wrong and you want to complain, but a lot of pet sotres do have a no refunds on goods policy (well where I'm from they do) so i see it as a bit pointless :S

By law they have to keep a record of all animals they get in and where they come from but it's only for birds, dogs and cats that it's the law to keep a register of sales.

Next year secondary legislation under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 is coming into force whereby it is likely to become a legal requirement to provide owners with documentation on the care of the animal (http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/welfare/act/petsales_fairs.htm) and I guess there is an assumption somewhere that this law will cover sales registers, too.

It's no coincidence that the likes of Pets at Home have started seperating guinea pigs and rabbits when the Animal Welfare Act quite clearly states an animal's need should include "any need it has to be housed with, or apart from, other animals," and that the laws governing the inspection and licencing of pet shops are due to be completely revamped over the next year...

Not because they care!
