hi, i am just wanting some advice as it has been years since i had a mini pig and i have forgotten what to do with them and also she seems to be a longhaired i think so could do with some advice on extra care for her etc..
If anyone knows what she is so i'll have an idea how she'll look when she's bigger that'd be good. she is george's new wife and they are very happy together already (apart from a bit of attempted humping on george's part but she is too quick for him) (he is neutered incase anyone is worried)

1. i've forgotten if i should handle her straight away or leave for a short period of time (if so how long), at min she screams blue murder when you pick her up.

2. i know you have to brush her everyday but i think you bathe quiet often with long haireds, how old does she need to be before you can use guinea shampoo? and how frequent should i bath does she need conditioner?

3. do long haireds have any more frequent illnesses than short haireds which i need to look out for?

4. is it ok to feed veg as she is with george who is used veg everyday or should i scale veg back as she is only little?

5. anything else i should know about long haireds? i have three other pigs so am quite pig savvy just never had a long haired!

finally i will add some pics of my baby!

Hello Briony_Y,
I will try to answer your questions as best as I can having two long hairs-One 5 months and the other 1 year and 10 months:)

1. i've forgotten if i should handle her straight away or leave for a short period of time (if so how long), at min she screams blue murder when you pick her up.

Haha! Most pups are like that. Just try and get her used to you. Try feeding her when she is in your lap or hand feeding her while she is in her cage. Be quiet around her. Treat her like a new-born baby that needs to be gently handled.

2. i know you have to brush her everyday but i think you bathe quiet often with long haireds, how old does she need to be before you can use guinea shampoo? and how frequent should i bath does she need conditioner?

How old is she? Don't bathe them more than they need as they find it stressful. I suppose you can use shampoo and conditioner but don't get it in her eyes. They only need a bath when they are super smelly or it is really hot outside.

3. do long haireds have any more frequent illnesses than short haireds which i need to look out for?

Not that I know of! They are just the same as short hairs.

4. is it ok to feed veg as she is with george who is used veg everyday or should i scale veg back as she is only little?

Vegies are fine. If you just put the food in the cage she shall eat until her tummy is full (or maybe not...:p) I would not worry about this though.

5. anything else i should know about long haireds? i have three other pigs so am quite pig savvy just never had a long haired!

Long hairs are very cute! As you would know already with the little girl you have;) They tend to get "Butt Matts" that would need to get cut out. They hate this and squeal ALOT!

I hope I have covered everything... Any other questions just ask!
