I just got my furry friend today and she hasn’t pooped at all she has toys food water hay and all she does is sit under a igloo helppoo

Welcome and sorry to hear about it.

I feel she is a bit nervous currently especially if she just came home.

Have you started feeding her some veggies? Both my Finn and Lara love their veggies and herbs.

Make sure you have a covered area in the cage. Maybe put the food under it so she feels safe! Best of luck!

Hi

Please do not keep guinea pigs as singles; they are group animals and not wired to be alone; having a same sex companion is the very best thing you will ever do for your piggy; your love can never replace the 24/7 need for company at all hours in the next 5-7 years as you have your own life, school/job and social commitments. Your guinea pig's need for round the clock stimulation will not just stop when you are busy.
Sadly Switzerland is still the only country where it is forbidden by law to sell, rehome or keep any group species as a singles - including guinea pigs! :(

Your little one is feeling very lost and frightened for its life; it is running fully on prey animal instincts in foreign territory in the power of a large smelly predator that plays with it from time to time but might kill it any minute.

Put a sheet or blanket over the cage to give it a feeing of safety; place hay (which is making over 80% of the daily food intake), water and veg nearby and leave it alone to get its bearings. Poo output always lags 1-2 days behind the intake.

Please take the time to read up on our tips and information on how settle in skittish new piggies, understand prey animal instincts and use guinea pig social interactive behaviours to make friends with it; learn about guinea pig social needs, their behaviours and how to properly care for them:

Good news and all the best!

Please double-check the gender before you put both piggies together on neutral ground. We will help you if necessary to make sure that there are no unplanned consequences if the pictures in our sexing guide won't do the trick.
