The3LittlePigs
Junior Guinea Pig
So, finally I have two pairs that seem to be settled. Pepper got a new boar mate, Razz, and we've just passed two weeks together, so far they are getting on brilliantly. Really there was very little dominance behaviour; pepper chased Razz a little, and chattered his teeth alot, but Razz just ran away and had no response, so pepper seems to have accepted him. I see very little dominance from them now, aside from the occasional chasing from pepper. Kiwi and turbo are getting on as always, with kiwi chasing turbo and turbo squeeking cheekily, as though it was all a game. Although I'm overjoyed that the two pairs seem to be settled so far, I'm still left with pickle as a solitary boar. He gets on fine with his position, but he's definitely lost his spark, and seems more on edge. I desperately want a friend for him, but with five piggies to boot, and the potential of having to seperate another pair, I'm a little lost. I always have the opportunity to try one of my boys with one of the others if there is a falling out, but at the moment I'm unsure of what to do with pickle. I'm certain he would accept a baby pig, but then there's always the potential for a fall out during teenage months. My other boys are all well over that mark except for Razz, but again, age can often mean nothing, as I've learnt with pickle and pepper falling out when they're both almost four, and have been living together for three years! Having pickle neutered is something I want to avoid entirely.. I work at a vets and I've seen what can happen with small pets, and I'd rather not have him put through the procedure without access to someone extremely experienced in piggie surgery, and without real health reasons when I know piggies can live happily with their own sex; besides, adding a sow into the mix has the potential to drive the others crazy! So, I'm wondering, what would others do in this situation? I'm certainly financially capable to take on another boy, but I was looking to thin out my piggie herd a wee bit, not continue to add to it! Although I'd love a new addition, and I am currently in the mind to go and get him a baby mate, I want to hear opinions from others most of all
