Hello, I have had two male 9 week old babies for a week now, and the cage came with Pets at Home Hay and nuggets. These have run out so I bought guinea pig food and some hay from another shop and they are not eating the hay at all. Usually they would eat a whole rack a day. Is hay really that different? They've had a check up at the vets a couple of days ago and are fine.

Hi and welcome!

New food can throw them, as can a new home; would it be possible to make a trip to the pet shop so you can mix the hay and pellets to help get your newbies used to other tastes? Otherwise, you will have to wait until they are hungry enough to eat ANYTHING.

Youngsters learn from their elders what is safe to eat and what not, as well as how to use a water bottle. Young shop piggies usually don't have that reassuring back-up and - if timid - are very much left in the lurch when it comes to new foods. it can take quite some patience and persistence to introduce new foods.

I would recommend to eventually try to get your piggies esposed and used to as many different hays, veg and pellet brands, and to mix regularly to prevent them from becoming too particular, which can be a problem if you can't get hold of any specific foods.

Here are some threads that may help you to settle in and get to know your piggies:
