We just picked up a new piggy to join our girls. However I have just noticed her ear is scabby and looks sore.. is this an injury or could it be something else?

That’s what I thought and how typical that I’ve text the breeder and she hasn’t replied. Can humans catch this from the pig? My daughter has a severe medical condition so need to know if she could get it.

Also I assume she will infect our other pigs until treated and clear of it

The only way to be sure is take your piggy to the vet, they can advise you if it is ringworm, but its definitely a form of fungal. As a precaution you need to wear gloves when handling your new piggy and keep her away from your others.
You will need suitable treatment prescribed ideally by a vet.

I won’t let my daughter touch her then and yes keeping her away from the others for sure. The breeder got in touch and said the others are totally fine but that I can return her. I don’t really want to return her now. She is lovely and I’ll just make sure I get her better. Do you think I should ask breeder for contributions to vet costs?

I completely agree, as the piggy was obviously showing symptoms when you collected her, they should be covering her vet bills relating to the fungal. Sending healing vibes, hope you can get on top of it quickly.

Well the lady said it’s not fungal and I need to just spray it with beaphar mite spray.... I’m not convinced..

When Dennis had mites he lost some fur on his nose it did not look like that. That definitely looks fungal. Take her to the vet. Do not treat on sped as this potentially hides the symptoms from the vet.

I think it’s fungal. It has that typical crusty ness about it. She seems bright in herself but keeping her separate.

Well i politely emailed the breeder some photos and suggested I pay for vet visit and she pay for treatment. She replied no way and that I could exchange my pig for a different one. I explained that would be pointless as all her animals will be infected. She said take my pig back but clearly I won’t do that as she will not be given the care she needs. Little Peanut is improving with canesten which I’m pleased about.

And that clearly sounds like if you HAD returned her the breeder has no intention of having her treated by a vet. Glad you kept her

Pleased to hear your piggy is improving and I'm glad you decided not to return her. I would have done the same. The breeder sounds so uncaring and I hate those type of people. Hugs to you and your piggies.xx

Sorry (but not surprised) to hear that the breeder is not cooperative. You can of course report them to your local council for selling ill animals

She has threatened to get a solicitor because apparently my email was slanderous.! 🤣 . I only suggested I pay for vet consultation and she covers the cost of the treatment. I said she has a moral and eithical responsibility to ensure her animals are well and to provide treatment if they are not. I said all her animals are likely to be infected and she totally refused to believe me. I told her to go ahead and I’ll reclaim any costs via small claims court. Can’t belive she was so vile when she was in the wrong and I was not. Fortunately peanut is on the mend. First two pics on day we got her and this is the pic of her ear tonight. The woman even said I was lying and making it up despite me sending her full body shots or the pig.

I just can’t comprehend how someone can sell an animal that’s unwell and then get their back up when politely told there is a problem and then to continue advertising the other pets online! 😡😡😡
