So today on facebook I saw a post for 2 young guinea pigs, in quite a small cage that seller seemed to want to get rid of quickly. I had said no more to my OH as I already have 5 girls. I thought nothing more of it, but couldn't stop thinking while in the shower.

It turns out they are a male and female in the same cage and she thinks they are over 9 weeks old (yet more pigs I don't know the age of). I felt so bad for them and felt like they really needed rescuing. I managed to pick them up tonight about half 8. I turned up and she said I will get husband to bring them to car, I paid her and I tried to ask her some questions but she didn't answer as was rushing back to the house. I was only there for 2 mins as she was obviously keen to get rid of for the money.

I have no idea how old they are, but I have checked them over and they are definitely a boy and a girl and seem to be healthy. As it was so late I have not had time to separate them but that will be done first thing in the morning.
I gave them some veg and water and some pellets rather than the museli that was full of sawdust and poop.
I understand that the girl may well be pregnant and have started reading the pregnancy threads.

I am going to have to rehome the male and keep the female while she is on pregnancy watch and then see what to do then. I will get better photos tomorrow.

Incidentally if anyone is looking for a single male pig, he is a stunning golden agouti and is available for re-homing. Will take better pigtures tomorrow for everyone.

Well at least now they are in a home where they will be separated and receive appropriate care.
Good luck with them, and looking at their size I would say it is safe to assume that the female will be pregnant :(
But maybe they just look huge because they are in such a tiny cage.

Aw they're lovely, good luck with them. I see so many ads like this on various sites. Wish I could home them all.

Hi @Hank288

It is more than likely your Sow is pregnant, so as a precaution it may be a good idea to start a thread for her in the Pregnancy section. As for the boar it may be worth contacting a recommended rescue to see if they can take him in, at the same time we would mention the sow too. Please quarantine these two piggies from your other piggies for at least 2 weeks as unfortunately they have come from a dubious background and although they seem relatively healthy you can't be sure that they aren't carrying something.contagious.

Pleased they are safe now :)

Agree with quarantine, you never know if fungal or something is brewing...

Here is a list of RR's near you for help with re-homing possibly

So pleased you got them out.At least there will be no more pregnancies for her.Could you possibly hang on to the boy until she has the babies as any boy could go in with him then be rehomed as a bonded pair.I separated Jasmines baby boy and he went in with a boy I had had neutered to go in with some girls but they just clicked. It would make the transition so much easier for a baby boy.

Some pics of my new guys. The Golden agouti is the boy and the red self is the girl. Still thinking of names. Male not too bad at being handled, but girl is terrible. She jumped off the sofa about 5 times, caught each time I might add.

On the plus side they also look in quite good condition, so at least they weren't horribly neglected in their previous home.
Looks like you got them out at the right time.
