I bought him single as he was sold on his own and has been on his own for over a month in the pet shop. I guess because he is more expensive than American shorthairs or whatever but I ended up bringing him home with me.

I do plan to pair him with a female after I get the neutered thing done. 6 weeks after he recovers for sure I’m going to take him dating.

What I’m wondering about is will he be okay if I place his current cage next to my sow trio? That way he can at least see other pigs through the grids.

I thought about introducing him to my bonded trio once he is neutered but they are doing so good together I’d hate to reset the whole herd.

Here he is he has a wonderful personality and is very curious about me, his surroundings and loves veggies so much!

He is gorgeous :wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub:

I ‘rescued’ Micah from a similar situation in a pet shop - he’d been bullied and labelled as having to live alone.
I brought him home, had him neutered and then he lived next door to my sow trio so that he could interact with them through the bat’s.
After 6 weeks I was confident the girls had accepted him and when I did remove the separation grids all went well.
He was highly excitable for a few weeks and had a few face fulls of pee but soon settled.
A boar isn’t part of the herd hierarchy in the same way sows are.

I’m sure the bonding guides and experts on the forum can offer more help.
Hope everything works well for you.

He is gorgeous!

He will be ok next to the girls for companionship through the bars - just ensure he cannot escape his cage and get in with them, boars can be very determined

As @Merab's Slave has said, boars are not part of sow hierarchy but they are part of group hierarchy. The sows will need to accept him if you wish to introduce him to your current girls (being old enough to be neutered and six weeks post op wait of course)

What a gorgeous chocolate stunner!

He can move next to your sows; if he is under 4 months, companionship is very important and overrules quarantine considerations. Acceptance will be helped if your little boys can make friends with the girls through the bars.

The reason for keeping established boar pairs away from sows is the risk of fall-outs even in adults when they come into contact with a full dose of seasonal sow hormones. Boars growing up around sows from the start will be much less affected.
Single boars can simply not fall out. The only think you have to be careful about is him getting into girls' cage so cable-tying any grids to prevent wiggling lose or underneath and making sure that he hasn't got any houses etc by the grids he can use to jump over. C&C is fine but piggies can jump a midwest from the ground.

His hair will need an afro comb to keep on top of and very regular grooming. I would recommend that you keep it shorter at the end and underneath to minimise the risk of tangles and matting once is grows out fully.

Thank you thank you guys. Every reply is very helpful (except the bats correction as I already knew you meant bars lol 😂).

Well he has been in a Midwest since he got here but I have a second c & c cage I have yet to setup. A 2x3.5 whereas my trio has a 2x6. I just need to go to Home Depot or Lowe’s and get a second folding table for it and set it up right next to Arwen, Galadriel and Eowyn.
The Midwest is a temporary setup and in a different room just since he got here this week.

And so they are side by side now. The sows are very curious about him. They are carrying on with their eating habits and routine. Except they are spending less time zooming / popcorning. They are spending time raising their heads in the air and smelling in his direction. They look adorable when they do it to be honest.

He is still in the Midwest although next to them. It turns out I needed to order a few more c&c grids for the 2x3.5 coroplast sheet I have in storage.

But I just wanted to add as of right now I have him in fleece which I’m trying out for him. So far it’s not that hard but there is just one pig as opposed to my sows who are on kiln dried pine.
