We have had guinea pigs for close to 8 years but always adopted girls. Recently a friend gave my daughter a father and son (3 months) duo. I am concerned due to the older one's behavior that the little one might be female. The older one is humping and chasing the younger one. What is normal and should I be concerned? I am getting a bigger cage for them today. Any other suggestions would be great.

Males do hump males BUT - It would be prudent to get someone to check their genders - just to be certain

Hi and welcome!

Whenever you have new piggies meeting, regardless of the source, please always double check the gender as a matter of fact! I do it with any new piggies of mine, even if they are from a reputable rescue.

Boars bond via rumbestrutting, chasing and humping. That is par for the course. Most boar bonds founder when one party has had enough and takes exception or cannot stand up from themselves and ends being bullied.
You may find this link here helpful; it also has has a chapter about the specifics of boar bonding.

Thanks for the replies. This is not a new-to-each-other pair. They are a father and son that have been housed together since March. I did find out today that she put them in a smaller cage when she gave them to us. So I got a bigger cage today and hopefully they will chill out with more room

This is a pic of the 3 month olds genital area. Hopefully someone can tell female or male

To be honest, that looks rather like a sow to me, but the knob is not properly focused, so I cannot see for sure whether it is angular (as in a sow) or round (as in a boar) and whether there is a slight swelling to the sides of the genitalia as the testicles are starting to descend.
Can you please compare the arrangement with dad where it does down the slit? if it is the same, then you have got two boars.

(Pictures from cavy spirit)
This is how the slit arrangement in a sow looks:

This is what you get in a boar before his testicles start descending at around 3-4 months (or after they have been removed):

iI you find that you actually have a little girl, please split her from her dad and open an ongoing support thread in our specially monitored pregnancy section. We have got detailed guides for members dealing with an unplanned pregnancy that cover the whole period at the top of the section. https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/forums/pregnancy-baby-care-and-sexing-no-breeding.11/
