Pumba09

HI everyone well what can i say i love guinea pigs. I had my last one for three years she was a long haired guniea pig and in march i had to put her down due to a serious eye infection and tumor. It was heartbreaking and now i am totally paranoid with my lil piggy. My brother got a new one a few weeks ago and i just noticed that she has a bump that is kinda white and there maybe a small trace of blood there too right in where her whiskers are on the side of her mouth. They told me at the pet store to use some antibiotic cream or something like that on it to kill an infection. I was just wondering if anyone here has an idea what it may be and if i should take pumba to the vet. I am a lil hestitant after the last vet visit i made i paid close to 400 after everything was done so i don't want get took to the cleaners again.

Yes, if it concerns you I would take the piggy to the vet as a precaution, just as a check up. It shouldn't cost and arm and a leg for a check up and better done now then leaving it and then it'll be more serious and need more treatment.

I would also check on the inside of the mouth if you can and see that the teeth are ok.....it might project through to the outside. Is the piggy eating normal?

oh yeah she munched down a fair size carrot last night and has been full of energy all day and night. She hasn't acted any different. My cousin said she thought it may have been an infected whisker but i have never seen that on piggy's before.

I would still put some antibiotic cream on it to starve off the infection and check if there is any puss coming out of it.....if the piggy lets you touch it, that is!

I put some polysporin on it tonight, she didn't even mind me toughing it. She tried to lick the cream though lol.. i will keep a close eye on it.

I guess with the cream the bump should "respond" pretty soon. Keep and eye on it.
Ahhh, yes, they like to lick anything off if they can reach it!
Good luck!

i don't really have any advice apart from take piggy to the vet if you think there's something wrong. better to sort it sooner rather than later.

sorry to hear about your other piggy.

just wanted to say that pumba is a great name for a piggy! love it! :)
