All you can do is ride the tiger! Whatever happens, you have given her every chance to make it and be VERY proud of that. We cannot control the outcome of an illness, all we can do is our best and to make any life, whether it is short or long, worthwhile and filled with love on a daily basis - that is what counts!

I don't think she was ever given the correct care. She has had two owners before us and the one we bought her from i think had no idea. So at least we have been giving her a loving home and the best care.

You are making her life matter.

I sincerely hope that she pulls through this one, too! she has come so far, thanks to your care.

I asked the vet about adding back in her guinea pig food. She said sure. I just gave Snickerdoodle about a 1/8 of a cup. She ate the whole thing.

History on Snickerdoodle. We bought Snickerdoodle 3.5 weeks ago. When we brought her home she was small and was probably not fed the right things. She had iceberg lettuce in her cage and the owner had run out of food. She was given hay cube instead of hay. We notice she had soft poop.
Flash forward until yesterday. We went to the vet for a follow up. She has normal poop but when we were at the vet, she started pooping and there was blood in it (or around it). Vet put here on Antibiotic. She apparently also has a heart arrhythmia. After we gave her the antibiotic. I also reintroduced the guinea pig food. I gave her about 1/16 - 1/8 of a cup. She stood there for about 15 mins eating it. Then she started to just rest and sleep allllll afternoon/evening. This is my REALLY squeaky piggy and nothing. We thought we were going to lose her. I gave her a tiny piece of banana to give her some sugar, hoping that would perk her up. (oh and she was off fresh veggies/fruit) It did a little and we got a little hope. Then she kept sleeping. I kept giving her about 8 pellets of food. Since I have seen if they are eating and drinking, that is a good thing. She had about 24 more pellets. I called the vet she said to stop the antibiotic. She has never known a guinea to react that way, but to make sure. I held her that evening on a white towel and fed her some hay, no blood when she pooped. All day she kept pooping and pooping. I know piggies poop a lot but this looked little weird for me. All my others don't look like her when they poop. Could she not be used to the normal poop and case bleeding because she is straining? Yesterday evening she started to squeak and even jumped over her little food dish, then ..... more sleeping. I have never seen her sleep before today. I don't think i have ever seen any of the guinea pigs sleep. (we have had two since may)

I woke up early this morning, because I couldn't sleep since I thought we might have a dead guinea pig. But she is alive and was squeaking, to my amazement!

Sorry this is so long. Has anyone else had a reaction to an antibiotic like that? Suggestions? I am going to call the vet later when they open (still 6:30 am here) But they deal more with Cats and Dogs out here in Kansas.
