I get the MoneySavingExpert emails and just clocked that there is now another company offering pet insurance for guinea pigs

Exotic Insurance | Insurance Cover for Exotics Pets UK

This is good in that it provides some competition for exotic direct but I haven't looked through the terms of insurance or received a quote to see how it measures up

Says it covers up to 3k per small mammal. I wonder if that's per year or life. I would assume per year. I've already spent over 3k in 10 months. But too late to insure mine now.

Very interesting, thank you.
I put in the details of a one year old guinea pig, living at Buckingham Palace, bought for £35.
It came back with these options:

£188.00/Year:
Claimable Period 12 months from the date the injury happened or the clinical signs of the illness were first noticed.
Veterinary Fees Excess £160
Veterinary Fees Up to £1000
Alternative & Complementary Treatment (within vet fees) Up to £300
Saying Goodbye (within vet fees) Up to £100
Advertising & Reward Up to £100
Excess £50 for each claim
Third Party Liability Up to £1,000,000
Excess £500 for each property claim

OR

£232.80/Year:
Claimable Period 12 months from the date the injury happened or the clinical signs of the illness were first noticed.
Veterinary Fees Excess £160
Veterinary Fees Up to £3000
Alternative & Complementary Treatment (within vet fees) Up to £400
Saying Goodbye (within vet fees) Up to £100
Advertising & Reward Up to £200
Excess £50 for each claim
Third Party Liability Up to £1,000,000
Excess £500 for each property claim

The excess seems very high considering you can only claim £3k a year. I don't think I would go for this.

Third party liability is this like if your guinea pig bites someone 🤣.

I think there was an option for a £60 excess too, but I don't know how that changes the cover...
