Hi All

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. I have just bought a new water bottle for my 2 girls. The last one recently broke and after having another previous one the same style breaking in the same way, I decided this time to get a different style. The only thing is now, I don't think they are drinking from it, the water level is the same as when I filled it yesterday. I don't think they know how to use it.

The spout bit is a bit different and doesn't stick out as far (it's a similar type of spout but just shorter). The bottle sits on the outside of the cage now, whereas the other style sat on the inside. The other one had a ball inside the spout which made a rattling noise when they drank, but this one doesn't.

Any ideas on how i can't get them to recognise this is their water bottle and how i can get them to drink from it?

Thank you xx

Just give it a few days more and feed a little bit more juicy veg in the meantime. They will figure it out eventually.

Is it one of the "dripless drinker" water bottles? because if it is, just be careful because neither my rabbit not my guinea pigs have worked out how to use mine. I left my rabbit with hers for a day and then realised she didnt know how to drink from it - she was so thirsty that evening when I gave her a different water bottle and I felt so guilty.

Yea I think it is one of them. It's got a normal shaped spout but instead of a ball inside it has a bit of metal sticking out, which when wiggled/pressed the water comes out.

I'm not even sure if they know the bottle is there. I tried showing them but they don't pay any attention to me.

Yes - thats the same one I am sure. I got mine from Sainsburys on whim! I would keep a close eye on your piggies as my guinea pigs and rabbit couldnt work out how to use it....maybe my animals are just dim though?

If its the same bottle that i had I honestly would give them a different type, of the kind that has the ball that wobbles in and out. Because I ended up with such a thirsty rabbit and felt so guilty. My boys still have not used their drip-less bottle and its been in their cage for over a week - they have a traditional bottle too so they dont "need" it. I think it requires quite a lot of strength to move the metal and get the water, and I'm not sure that my piggies have the strength.

Hmmm, yea might have too. I don't see why they make these types if the animals can't use them!

If the pigs honestly can't ''work it out'' or ''use'' it. Then I wouldn't risk their health with the option of dehydration. Or you could just feed some juicy vegetables and wait a little longer. But if I was you, personally; I'd just get another bottle, with the same technology as the other which they used. :)

Iv been making sure they get water somehow in the meantime, BUT...I think they might be getting the hang of it! Not 100% sure yet but will be monitoring it :D :D

You could also pick them up , and gife the bottle to them and have them drink it there then put it in the cage, that's what i did :)
