Good luck to everyone affected. Bit nervous about the drive home from work later on, and the OH has changed his working hours tomorrow as looks like it is possible that no trains will be running.

Thinking of you Pebble. I do hope you're not flooded too much :(

And I hope you arrive in Switzerland in time to celebrate with your family Wiebke without many disruptions.

And all the best for anyone else who may be affected xx

Fingers crossed for everyone's travel plans and for your house Pebble!

Managed to get out of work early so I'm going to get home tonight which is the first hurdle. Then it's only a matter of a safe and uneventful 3 hour drive to my folks tomorrow!

Sending good vibes to Pebble. I have been out and about today getting bits n bobs and the wind was quite nasty but nothing like the south obviously. Roads are starting to flood by us already. Ut nothing unusual though.

Keep save everyone.

How did everyone get on today, it's been hammering it down in the Midlands :)
Hope you're all safe and warm by now.

The drive home was horrible, wind not too bad but lashing rain and couldn't see a thing. The trains are up the creek too, but safe and warm now inside, though it is a bit hairy up here on the fifth floor. Phoebe skinny pig is not happy with the wind either which has really picked up since we got home. Oh and the smoking shelter at work blew away apparently.

Glad you're home safe :)

I trust no-one was in it at the time? :P

I don't think so, though the mean part of me wishes a few people were  We just got an email saying anyone wanted to smoke to go to the other end of the building.

Well it's just got very bad here. It's blowing an almighty gale, will be keeping an eye in the trees around the house. Hubby turned tv up as he knows the wind freaks me out.

Very bad weather here too in west Berkshire, trees down and high risk of flooding from surface water - scary stuff, shame I have work tomo too! x

Very windy down here in Plymouth  and we have scaffolding al around the house that the ladylady won't haven taken down as she wants work done on the house after Christmas! So scared that its all going to blow away and cause a load of damage!
a few years ago in our old house when the wind was like this, our 6foot trapoline (with cage around it) lifted clean off the ground over our 6 foot fence smashed in to our neighbours porch, flew down the road and landed on someones car! I dont like wind anymore! lol

the fence has taken a beating. Will need replacing. The neighbours put a ladder on it apparently so that added weight wouldn't have helped. See if they pay towards the fence since its partly their fault because of the ladder... Who put a ladder up on a fence!?

Sadly Tower Hill Stables in Asheldham, Essex has been gutted by the storm. Fiona Oakes cares for hundreds of animals at the sanctuary. All animals are safe but there is a lot of structural repairs needed. If you can help at all donations can be made via their website www.towerhillstables.com

A sudden gust of wind has just moved my shed 2"! I wouldn't mind i was sat in it cleaning the hutches! :yikes:

Weather wasnt that bad up here but I did get caught by a crosswind when doing 70mph that was fantastic, not. Then I walked to the shop and got pelted with ice cold heavy rain and blown around ... take care guys remember better late than never oh and somebody's fence casually was on a journey down the road!

Phew - that was scarey!

We made it by a whisker.....no wind damage but marooned from 11pm 23rd til 9am 24th having spent most of the evening moving everything upstairs..getting pig carriers ready for evacuation etc etc....before conking out exhausted on the sofa fully clothed in the early hours ....only to miss the "main event" between 4 and 6am when the squall and extra rain hit sending the stream into overdrive. Thankfully the floodwater didn't ever rise high enough to actually challenge the leaky flood door threshold even though the rain did! So all we got was a soggy utility room floor which towels could easily cope with.

Finally got the tree up last night...Lewis was very interested in what was going on.........Piggies are enjoying their elevated views even if their cages are a bit manky because not had time to clean them out!

Turkey crown is now in the oven and I am sitting here with a glass of bubbly with Mr Michael Bubbly on the CD thinking how lucky we have been here compared to our neighbours in Tonbridge/Leatherhead/Guildford etc. Tiggy is enjoying her new cat-nip Mr Fishy and the Piggies are tucking into dandelion feast.

The Pebble household would like to send festive cheer and thanks to the Environment Agency, Emergency Services, Local councils and Utilities staff who have given up their Christmas to help people stay warm, dry and safe....you are heroes. Thank you!

Secondly and equally importantly. sending thoughts and condolences to all those who are not spending today as they had intended including Greenhithe.
I hope 2014 will be kinder to you all and that this time next year you will be in happier place.

Wheek wheeek miaowww

Love PP, Numpty, Tiggy and Piggies

xxxxx

NB - unfortunately more awful weather to come on 27th and 30th/31st - torrential rain and wind - stay tuned!
